Original 61 Custom wiring

I recently got a 61 Custom that's mostly original but has pat# p/us in place of the original PAFs which were removed sometime in the past 49 years. It's a wonderful guitar to play and sounds as good as any PAF-equipped Gibson I've ever heard, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that the Custom had the middle and bridge p/u wired out of phase in factory spec.

I have a 2006 VOS Custom 61 re-issue which was supplied with out of phase mid and bridge from the factory, so that seems to back this idea up.

Does anyone know for sure? The original brochure refers to something like 'middle and bridge combined for extra top end and special effects', which may be an oblique way of saying 'it's out of phase in this position.'

The original 61 is way better than the re-issue, by the way.

Re: Original 61 Custom wiring

According to:http://lespaulelectricguitars.com/les-paul-schematics

Gibson Les Paul Custom - Standard 3 Pickup SchematicThis is the standard circuit for the 3 Pickup Les Paul and SG Custom used by Gibson since the 1950s. The toggle switch selects the bridge pickup in the down position, the neck pickup in the up position and the middle position selects the bridge and middle pickups together. The middle pickup is out of phase with the bridge pickup which gives a thin hollow sound

Check out the custom description here -> http://everythingsg.com/index.php/1962g.html

And this schematic seems to have a '62 date -> http://www.gibson.com/Files/schematics/solid.gif
