the firebrand SGs and LPs are not super collectable. More of a players guitar so i would just throw out a number of around $500 US dollars give or take a hundred either way depending on condition.

If I remeber correctly 'The Paul' and 'The SG' are '78 and '79 models, and the Firebrand moniker was added in '80 til '82 or '83, and some other colors were offered. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but this should be fairly accurate...

    Cheers,

I believe the Firebrands had the Gibson logo "Branded" into the headstocks as well...

    Hey bon83,

I've seen these going (or sitting on the shelf) for up to $800 US, but I remember when they were $399 all over the place not so long ago. If you really like it it probably won't lose value, since even mass produced 80's entry level stuff sounds better than most of the junk out there these days. All I can say is try to haggle a bit (the price seems steep), and have a good look at the frets (and intonation at least by ear) since the fretwire on these seems to flatten out easily and fret jobs aren't cheap...
I've bought and sold a bunch of these over the years, and a nice one is a good playable axe.

    Best of luck!

great axe... my first SG and first 'real' Gibson.

i loved just about everything about it: the woody natural look, box knobs, small pickguard... and it absolutely ROARED. yours looks all original. being 100% walnut it also felt indestructible.

i've heard people call/write "The SG" is indeed a Firebrand even though it has a decal on it instead of an actual fire branding on the headstock (who the heck comes up with that stuff anyway???).

    congrats!
