It pains me to see SG body shells for sell. Stripped out, yet still in great shape. I search for them, and good buys that I can make work. I re-enter these into the world, either as a personal keepsake (most of them), or for someone else to enjoy and love like this wonderful animal should be. I can't say I agree with the folks that sell these wonderful items, but I am so proud when it re-enters the world as a whole entity and becomes what it was meant to be once again. Fortunately, I have the resources and ability to make this happen. Plus, it keeps me sane in this crazy world life we are in. This one is no exception, all done up in Gold factory Gibson parts (would not have it ANY other way). You won't find a Phoney part on my guitars head to tail, down to the last freekin' screw. It's not an ad, it's a PASSION for the Gibson SG. This "Black Beauty" went from a purchase of a "blank shell" to a BEAST, and I'm VERY proud of her. All that I can tell you is this is NOT a "SHELL" it is in the world to be played! And that is ALL I need to know! 2013 was a GREAT year for the SG Standard IMO. This one holds a 57 Classic in the neck, and a 57 Classic + where it matters. Just a MONSTER! ROCK ON!!!

I can't tell you enough: THIS IS GREAT!

I love to see an orphan guitar made whole and ready to play. Form follows function eh?
So a guitar like this which has had loving restoration...
...is like the rescue dog of the guitar world.

pedigree unknown, but full of readiness, soul and grace. (this is my dog Jack, who personifies
    all this, of course).

Anyway, Kudos to you and congratulations to whosoever should buy this fine instrument and
    put her into play.

let the buyer know if he ever needs to sell it ... I'll probably still be looking for one. I think I need about a year to get the money together though

    Hello 58pit,

    First post here...great forum.

I have always wanted to do what you are doing with the "blanks" SG and LP bodies I see lying around. I was wondering, what tuners did you use? Brand and part #? The amount of options around is maddening and I have found that finding tuners for an SG that are precise and do not add too much weight to the headstock can be tricky.

Thanks. I have the Tonepros Kluson style on my SG. Excellent machines, but they don't make them anymore. On my LP R0, I am not sure - they are Kluson type and keep in tune very well. And a set of Grovers on another Lester.

I tried Grovers on my SG and they just killed the balance., so I put the Tonepros back on. So I am looking for another option for when I build an SG. I'll try out the model you suggest. Thanks again!

Great work, 58pit. The bloody Stratosphere place seems to buy lots of guitars, tear them apart and make huge profit on selling the bits - kinda makes Gibsons job of making great low cost guitars even more difficult... :(

I love the gold details, like the mounting and adjuster screws.
