8m confused, did the SGJ 120th Anniversary model come with or without a pickguard? I've seen pictures both ways and don't know if they offered it both ways or was the pickguard added. The one I recently bought used has a guard, but it also has a cream colored toggle knob which I'm pretty sure the previous owner added.

I like the look with a pickguard much better, btw. That's a sweet looking SG.

The SGJ was only produced for two years (2013 and 2014). Neither year had a pick guard installed from the factory. Any pick guards you find on second hand SGJ are aftermarket installed by the end user.

sgj3.jpg Mine remains uncluttered. I did however add Tronical tuners. They still work flawlessy. I never let the battery drain completely and I re-calibrate them a couple of times a year.

My LPJ did cry out for a pickguard. And I added the Tronicals and 57 classics. Currently the 57s have been swapped back to the 490/498 pickups. I found the 57s too mild for a Les Paul.
The minimalist vibe combined with the great feel and performance make these two huge bang for the bucks. I like the 61 pickups in the '14 SGJs I've played very much.

I have always considered the SGJ as another moniker for a 24-fret version of the SG Special Faded.

The zebra humbuckers and batwing looks great on yours IMO.

    Glad you like it !

I installed the same pickguard on my 24 fret 2013 70's tribute.

When you're locating the new holes to be drilled, the bridge inserts and neck hold the pickguard perfectly in place.

It was to keep the magnetic orientation the same as a stock SG.

I got the guitar out and double checked it.

I thought it needed to be done and tried it but it was good to go as is.

With the bridge pickup turned around, its like a stock Les Paul is.

    Thanks for pointing it out.

Sorry if it rankled. I was genuinely curious.

What pickguard did you guys install? An original Gibson one?
I have a 2014 SG Special which I am lightly modding (new pup rings and knobs) and I'd like to add a batwing pickguard, but I'm unsure if a proper Gibson would fit

It's not a standard pickguard, it was around $60.

    Huntroll, thanks for this.

Thing is, I'm in Europe and it'd be much easier for me to source it locally. Plus 60$ is way beyond what I'd like to spend for a pickguard.

How about an angel wing (or whatever they're called) pg? Do those from Gibson fit in straight out of the box?
