As well as its predecessor, the SG-62. Hopefully this should clear up some of the common misconceptions about the SG-62. https://solidguitar.wikia.com/wiki/SG-62 https://solidguitar.wikia.com/wiki/'61_Reissue If I missed anything, please let me know!
Do you have a way to display the 62 and 61 together to show how the 62 body shape was off? When I flip back and forth I don't readily see the difference.
Nice page ('61). I have one of the 2016 proprietary ones. The run was commissioned by Dave's and Sweetwater, if you want that info. Bob
Yes, I'll make up something. The biggest differences are the '62 having a shorter lower horn (and shorter pickguard horn) and to my eye, a narrower waist, but I could be wrong about that. Also, the shape seems more offset. I'm curious myself what exactly will be different.
The only difference I see right away between a 61 and 62 is that the controls are closer to the edge of the body on the 62.
Very well done and thanks again. You've now covered all my personal favourite SGs. The Wiki is looking great; All the relevant information, well presented and all in one place!
Here we go. The outlines are the SG-62 shape and pickguard, while the background image is a '61 RI: You know, I'd always thought the '62 looked smaller. I wasn't expecting such a big difference with the lower horn bout, though. And to be clear, I made sure they were both scaled properly by matching the necks because we know the scale lengths and fret positioning should be identical.
I think you'll find that, like with the crown inlay, once you see the difference, you can't un-see it. Here are the images laid over each other: As it turns out, the knobs are actually in the same place relative to the center, it's just that the body is smaller. I should do this with the '71 Deluxe because I've heard that saw a change in the body shape as well.
This is awesome work, well done. Does anyone have one of the “61 Reissue "Limited Proprietary Run" (2016)” They look great
If more than one retailer had it, it was probably just a limited run by Gibson. Usually, if a retailer orders a run, they are exclusive to that retailer. For example, the 2016 "proprietary" SG Junior was for the Japanese market, but not exclusive to any one retailer. I'm doing the Original and '61 Tribute pages next. Just added the Derek Trucks Signature: https://solidguitar.wikia.com/wiki/Derek_Trucks_Signature_SG
There is one on Ebay right now. Not cheap though: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2016-Gibso...861935?hash=item26136ff66f:g:pbMAAOSw7BRbLCrY
Thanks PTL, a good chunk of change for sure. Reminds me of the Gordy Johnson signature SG. Those have about the nicest horns I have seen on a Gibson post 1960’s
