I'm looking at purchasing a new 2017 SG Faded T and was hoping some of you could help give me some input.

Does anyone have one of these?

If so, what is your level of satisfaction?

And how slim taper is the slim taper neck with the extra thick fretboard?

    Thanks!
    H

I had one. The neck was super comfortable. It wasn't a whole lot different from my 2016 faded which has a rounded profile. A bit flatter on the back sure, but still great and I prefer fat necks. Fit and finish was great. I especially liked the type of gloss finish it had it wasn't the high gloss like a standard, but it wasn't satin either.. I ended up returning it because I thought there was a wiring issue, but turns out it was a bad connection in my amps input jack..
They are great guitars, I would happily get another!

    Wasn't Satin or Gloss?
Maybe you were thinking filled vs unfilled grain?

Satin finishes can either have the grain filled or unfilled. From my experience, an SG Special Faded (SG Faded) will always have a Satin finish with unfilled grain. Recent year SG Specials such as the 2016 SG Special T were available as Satin Cherry with unfilled grain and Satin Ebony with filled grain. I had one of each.

Pictured below are two Satin finishes in ebony for comparison:

    left: 2005 SG Special Faded
    (satin finish, unfilled grain)

    right: 2016 SG Special T
    (satin finish, filled grain)

I have owned about a dozen SG Specials in the past ranging from 1963-2016. None of the ones I owned had Slim Taper necks. I find that playing Slim Taper necks for an extended period of time causes my hand to cramp so I tend to avoid them.

I remember the 2016 SG Faded was listed as having a thicker fingerboard, but I do not recall if the 2017 model did. But I do remember the neck profiles were listed as follows:

    2016 SG Faded (SG Rounded)
    2017 SG Faded (Slim Taper)

I had the opportunity in the past to A/B Test a 2016 and 2017. The 2016 definitely had the thicker neck.

If you are particular about necks, it's best to try before you buy.

    Thanks for your responses guys.

From what I have read, the 2017 does have a thicker fingerboard. I am rather particular about neck, preferring the thicker as I have huge hands and, like you CB, I get cramps on thinner necks.

I think I will pass on the 2017 and hunt around for a used Faded with the fat neck.

As I am unable to find a used Special or a new Standard Tribute for under a grand, I have ordered the 2017 Faded T (which is less expensive), delivery expected in a week!

Seriously, the used market on SGs has gone nuts here in Europe. Some local guy wants 600 for an SGJ, the same guitar for which I paid 480 for NEW back in 2014...

Oddly, LPs are maintaining a lower price. Maybe the SG is increasing in popularity ?

In 2017 the faded sg's had a different finish called something like "worn/faded gloss".. no grain filler, shiny but not like the standard gloss
