Out of curiosity, what size headstock do SG lovers prefer. The big or small.

Think of the 61 re-issue vs the Standard.

Large headstock found on 61 re-issue VOS, and many others

I am just curious if people have a preference, or if they even notice these details.

Personally I love the larger headstock. Not that I look at a standard and think “oh that doesn’t look good”. But when I see them side by side, I do go “dang that larger headstock looks awesome”!

I prefer the smaller one by far. Also, you can make this post a poll where people can actually vote which one.

I like them both, but prefer the wide headstocks

Pretty sure he has already, referencing the overlay design, etc. Not sure I've ever encountered a headstock fetish before.

Honestly, I like the Billy Gibbons flying v on an SG. I like the small on a Les Paul, but would like the big on an ES.

    I have one of each...
But to me it doesn't make much difference. It doesn't affect tone,
so it comes down to how I feel when I gaze lovingly at them
    on their stands.

    Since I'm a self-confessed guitar slut, I like them all, I like
both the big and the smaller one. i think I prefer the smaller,
but it's not big deal with me.

Yeah that’s an eye catcher :naughty:

Are the neck and body the same colour?

    Nice, very vintage Vibe!

Between the cream soap bars and the gold knobs one cannot help but to feel like they went in a time machine.

You don’t see many like that. Excellent work

Bat WingV3.jpg Good question. Have never thought of this before. Am into SG horns. Horns with well defined points are essential for shaping the SG's inner vibrations. If I had to make a generalization of headstocks, it does not matter to me.

And If you like to hang stuff from the headstock, of course you need the larger version.

My bigger question is it a bat wing or a 61 version pick guard.

For the record, I seriously and strongly dislike batwings. The store owner said "Play it!" It came home with me. This 93 batwing is one of the best guitars I have ever played.

Now I return you to the original topic - Headstocks - Big or Small?

Do the tone wood faeries prefer sharp points? Let's get the Ouija Board out and ask!

Some folks prefer to alter the bevels on their SG. Seems like the equivalent of clipping the ears on certain pedigree dogs.

Yeah I agree. If bevels were “that” important I would buy the ones that I liked
