It was a wait worth waiting for. 2019 Gibson SG Standard SG's i've owned. I have owned and sold many SG's over the years, none have truly been amazing. Either the paint was super SUPER thick, neck was weird, lacked tone, neck angle wrong, ..etc etc.. Not this one. It is a tone beast. Has a slim taper, that gradually gets huge. I think 2016 were kinda like this, and I know I had a late 90's with a similar neck, but not like this one. Its small at the 1st fret, and goes full on baseball bat. .080 at 1st, to .097 at 12th fret. SUPER comfortable, and exactly what a SG neck should be like. The nitro, and finish are super thin. Light paint really adds the feel on the neck. Weighs in at 6.2 lbs. Neck angle is perfect, (not headstock angle) . .it has that buttery, but stiff feel. Uniform action and playability up and down the neck, .. perfect. and its one piece. I cannot find a join seam anywhere. The 490T is super chunky, beefy .. very suprised. not like the 498T at all. I did peek under the hood, ad to my suprise was a circuit board. I am pretty sure I saw a video where the CEO said "NO MORE CIRCUIT BOARDS" in the new 2019 line. But, its sounds good, so tone is in the wood. Its just a good piece of wood, feels like a good piece of wood. Thank you Gibson. I hope the other SG's you make are same quality, and this just wasn't a first run gem. peace.
