Apologie if this has been posted before: https://www.dawsons.co.uk/blog/10-interesting-sg-facts
thats basically just a condensed - and slightly plagiarised - version of what gibson posted.
Maybe Henry can sue…
There's one big difference: Gibson aren't making the false claim that the SG Standard is their top selling guitar of all time (because it's really not!). It was the title of a brief article on the SG they published long ago - but it wasn't even claimed in the article itself. And the author of the article later corrected his figures in an piece he wrote on the '61 Les Paul SG. But Dawsons are still repeating the myth, as 'fact' 6.
Well, then what is?
I guess I fell for the myth that the SG is Gibson's biggest seller. What is?
Sue first! Facts can be sorted later.
Well, in part it's going to depend on how you ask the question:
Gibson's biggest selling guitar/electric guitar/electric solid body shape/electric solid body model (e.g. Standard/Studio/Special/etc.), and so on.
Where you quoted my words I referenced the old Gibson article: 'SG Standard', whereas you're mentioning a body style 'SG' - or at least that's how most people would probably read it - so they'd include the first Les Paul Standards with the SG shape - despite the name.
I wrote a dreadfully long post on the subject, after getting interested in how keen some SG fans are to support the claim - which I think is more a like a typo than anything else... :) But I do understand if others aren't interested enough to read it. :)
Thanks for that Skydog. With so many great guitarists to enjoy, until now I had never given Derek Trucks a listen.
Well thank goodness ol' Hank isn't around any more to cause trouble or confusion.
