So... there are all sorts of custom guitar builders out there now... not even full customs, parts guitars like all the relic tele's and telemasters, jazzmasters.... etc... mostly seems like fender designs out there now a days. I've been scouring the internet for someone that builds parts or boutique'ish guitars in the style of the SG. Does anyone know where I can find one of these?!? shoot even customizable les pauls are tough to find. And i understand why... set necks, fender licenses their designs out... etc. But surely there are some people making SG style guitars out there besides gibson and epiphone!

These guitars need to be tried to appreciate them.

The Ibanez has a couple of grades. They are a cross between a SG and a LP. The better has really nice pickups and useable coil switching. They all have incredible necks. Again, I don't own one but the neighborhood corner music store carries them. They have excellent workmanship for the price.

This is an older Hagstrum and I didn't see it on the Website. Never bought on, and wishing that I did.

Thanks for the link - I hadn't heard of them before, looks tempting.... Hmmm. Maybe thanks is the wrong word.

Another place to look for custom SGs is Maybach. I almost fell off my chair as I flicked through the last DV247 catalogue & saw their SG style P-90 Junior for £13,000... Then I realised it was a misprint as their LP models were around £1,600.

Compared to a PRS private stock or Gibson reissue the prices are quite reasonable. :naughty:

I have started making SG's exclusively. I try to make them seem as authentic Gibson as possible, but with my logo on them. I level the frets and assure the neck angle. Ebony or Rosewood fingerboard. Set Neck or bolt on. I call them "Custom Crafted" guitars. Any finish, color, and equipment you prefer. Price starts low goes up depending on hardware ordered.

IMO, it's hard to make an SG-style body that is different from Gibson's but still attractive. For some reason, I love the Gibson shape but rarely see a variant that I like much at all. The asymmetrical horns and proportions are, to me, a pretty subtle piece of work and I think Gibson does it best. The others mostly strike me as loose copies less nicely done. Also. I think the Gibson Custom Shop does a particularly nice job o SGs, so perhaps prospective custom buyers go direct to the source.

Jay Dee guitars. Their Donnington model was made for and is endorsed by a fairly well respected SG player.

I second that, Allen. Yours sounds like an amazing venture — very interested :-)
