    Hello!

Recently picked up a very roadworn and battered Gibson SG Standard for a cheap price.

Pots read CBA 811 1158 500K AT 13770 (then solder obscures the rest).

    Serial is 909451

My research seems to indicate it is a 1970 - pots point this, as to the closed b and o on the headstock. However it is missing the "Made in USA" stamp on the back of the headstock which would otherwise indicate a 1970 would it not?

Here are some pics - please help me date it!

    Thanks
    Alex

Sure wish I could see the week on the pot..definitely a '70, based on the headstock logo and that style of neck joint. Gonna say mid 70, as it has the last style of neck joint, but doesnt have the Made inb
USA or the larger volute of the later 70/early 71s..
Very nice! Do you have the OHSC and if so, what color lining does it have?

Dito on Kris' conclusion. Nice guitar. I have a late 68 that's almost identical (except for a 3 pup mod by previous owner) & I absolutely love her. Those patent sticker pups are da kats azz!

Yes, they are! My late '71's Deluxe's T Tops are absolutely amazing!! So many classic tones!

FYI, I also love the mini humbuckers from this era (Patent Sticker) & feel they were never replicated with the same mojo once Gibson varied from the way they were made during that time period. Frankly it was audacious & took sheer ballz to lie about the last round of mini hums in their 70's Tribute SG & LP the way they did. While some may like them for what they are, (& dats cool) they are just not what the Patent Sticker era pups sound like! Thats my story & Im sticking to it.

It reappeared in '70 sometime..can't say exactly when, but most evidence points to mid/late year..

Also, I have a period correct switch ring that would work nicely with the condition of your SG. It's yours if you want it.:thumb:
