Do stripes look good on an sg?

I would like to customize my 66 RI some day and I was thinking about some old school hot rod or lowrider pinstripes. What are your opinions? I'm not looking for too much like full body. Mainly just fill in the open body under the tailpiece. Possibly a few extra accents. Almost like the minimal white sg in the photos.

Stripes on an SG... the 2006 SG GT comes to mind.

I am not a fan of stickers as the glue can do some bad things to paint (especially nitro). But a custom paint job, go crazy. But it will be hard to sell later, so plan on keeping it forever.

I don't buy stuff to sell it later. Not worried about the resale value but I do want to make it mine and give it some personality.

Your call. Personally, I dig it! You don't need my or anyone else's approval though; do what looks good to you. :thumb:

Like they said. Do what you want to. I think ANYTHING that we do to our guitars that gives US a better feel about the instrument is great. If you like Lemmy's bass painted on your SG, go for it, others may prefer a Smurf or two. Whatever you like. I have seen many SGs with designs and stripes that look great. Go for it!

I'm going to do it once I get some money. I just wanted to see if it was socially acceptable. Lol

I'd love to find the right Zoot Suit SG. I am a fan of pinstripes on guitars.

yer nighthawk is MUCH more elegant than a zooter.

It always gives me the G.A.S. to look at it. That one's got to have
a totally unique voice with the pickup set you have there.

I always thought the Zooters were interesting, but not interesting
enough to buy one. If I saw this one in a pawn shop, I'd be
    tempted:

There are stripes and then there are stripes....so sure it's OK, as long as it ends up looking good. I have seen SG's done up with EVH stripes more than once, and they looked OK. They don't make sense on an SG, but they looked fine.

No EVH stripes. I'm going to do some old school hot rod pin striping. Similar to Billy gibbons.

I always thought flames on an SG would be a natural fit.
