Hey there! Quite new here, how about we take a trip down memory lane and tell me what the first song you played through your SG was. Mine was Cat Scratch Fever through this guy. A 2016 Standard I bought about a month ago used on craigslist. Fell in love instantly and it is my first Gibson. I was a fender guy for quite some time.

Welcome to ETSG! Many of us have other guitars we play.
But the Gibson SG seems more like a way of life than just
a guitar. *grins (I know, I know, they all say that)

Anyway my first song played on my SG was very likely to be
"I loved another woman" by Peter Green. Or possibly
"The Main Street Moan" by David Bromberg.

I got my first SG just a few years ago. I played a bit of Reeling In The Years when I tried it out. First full song at home was Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo, first song at a gig was Me and My Uncle. Last song I played on my 2008 SG Classic was last Friday, Honky Tonk Women.

BUT the second song I played on my SG was an original...
I came aboard here in like 2008, all new and excited about my
first SG. See my soundcloud link below...

Guys here told me that owning an SG was likely to make my music
take off in directions I hadn't known I was going.

I was like, 'yeah, right!" when I read this... but it turned out to be true.
My technique and my style took a quantum leap in the years to follow,
and I wrote songs with the electric guitar in mind, and was able to play
them and make them come to fruition.

At this (late) stage of my life, I believe that I am writing and playing
my best. That says a lot, and it means a lot to me. For me, the SG was
an inspiration, and I am experienced enough to follow any inspiration that
comes, right to the end, where ever it may lead me. I haven't reached the end yet, and it's more than ten years later.

    May you have this joy.

First song ever on an SG, don’t recall. Nowadays, it’s always an Acdc song. Whether it’s one of mine, or at a music store.

The into to you shook me all night long is always a go to. Fun to play and sounds good on any guitar.

    It's twoo, it's twoo...
My playing was pretty good before I found SGs but the depth and breadth of my style
has expanded exponentially. Weirdly, the SG has also made me more appreciative of Les Pauls. Vive la difference, eh?

The first thing I played on my first SG was the opening riff to "Unchained" by Van Halen. With the rest of my guitars I have no recollection of what I played. Probably just some blues noodling. Whenever I have gotten a new component for my stereo, I have always played "Unchained" as the first song.

Got my G400 in 2009 after being an acoustic only player since mid 70s. I don’t remember what song(s) I would have done first. But if I had to guess, it was probably a Neil Young tune. First tune I probably played bumper to bumper without interruption was probably The Who’s “Blue Eyes.”

Well since I just got my SG a couple of weeks ago, it's still pretty fresh in my mind. It would be one of the following, all of which I played to initiate it to SG tunes: "Fairies Wear Boots" by Black Sabbath, "Badge" by Cream, and "Back In Black" by AC/DC. Don't remember which came first but I think I chose Fairies Wear Boots because of the intro.

Being that I bought my SG because one of my fave bands - New Model Army - uses SGs for their sound, my first tune on my SG was going to be a New Model Army song.

It was probably this one. Just chugging and banging away on an A minor chord. (I later learned I was playing it wrong. I was doing an open Am, they do it with a barre.)

Always happy to get a bit of NMA!

I think my first song was Stone Temple Pilots - Sex Type Thing because it's my usual warmup. And then I think it was the acoustic part of Tom Petty's Free Fallin', because I was amazed at how resonant the guitar was.

I've noticed my style starting to change as well the more I play it. It's a very welcome change. I'm able to grind out heavier riffs I've noticed and my leads have gotten more diverse. The neck is perfect for me and feels natural. Ask my girlfriend I can't keep away from it. Everytime I see my SG I have to pick it up and play it just begs to be rocked out on. I think my girlfriend might be a little jealous ;).

When I went to buy my G400 from a guy off Craigslist I hadnt ever owned an electric guitar. I didnt know how exactly I would apply my playing from an acoustic to the electric. I did know there wasnt supposed to be a big crack in the neck. I tuned to Open E, then A, then G before setting it down and deciding to buy it... Thats a lie I had made up my mind before I even held it beciase i had played vintage SGs in shops becuase i had seen Robby Kreiger with one and I previously owned an Epi SG bass. I exclusively played blues slide guitar back then. Covering songs like Cant be satisfied, Shakem on Down, Preachin Blues, etc, where the pinnacle of my playing at the time.

The first song I played on my G400 was "Highway To Hell", in 2015. But I don't remember what song I played first with my SGJ, maybe an AC/DC's one, I'm a great of the group, or one of mine.

I'm not entirely sure. It was likely me just noodling for the most part but as far as actual songs, it would either have been "Need Your Love So Bad" by Fleetwood Mac, "Oh Carol" by Chuck Berry as those were the songs I used to play a lot back then. I still do

When I think SG I think Tony Iommi. Couldn't say for sure what the first full song I played on any of them was but very likely Black Sabbath and good odds it was Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.
