I have two SG Standard guitars one is a 2016 HP P90 and the other a 2018 Autumn Shade. I like them both. I was looking at a photo of one of the new 2019 61 SG Standards and the finish looked thinner and different to the finishes on my guitars. Are the new 61 guitars finished differently? They look very attractive. When I get time I may visit a guitar store but I'm a little apprehensive as I'm on a guitar diet.

Thanks for any feedback on this topic.
    Much appreciated.

    Hello everybody, new user here.
The Last may, I’d purchase the second SG of my life, and it suppose to be a 2014 standard in natural burst, since today, when here I discovered the autumn shade, is it possible I have this new to me, color on my guitar?
Sorry I having issues on uploading pics, anyway I was able to put it in my avatar

The SG Standard '61s, and its variants, are done in "Vintage Cherry". Your 2016 Standard is "Heritage Cherry".

Autumn Shade is a new color for 2018.

The 2014 can be either Natural Burst or Fireburst. The pic in the avitar is Natural Burst

Thanks, it’s equipped with the mini e-tune, and I’m about to remove it.

Not to familiar with the e-tune. I have the improved G-Force tuners on a few of my SGs and they work great. I haven't needed to replace any yet, but I notice batteries for them are pretty scarce

As far as nonstandard colors go, I thought the natural burst was in 2013 and some earlier batwing models but then in 2014 Gibson changed to fireburst and a color called walnut.

Looks brown to me ... I don't see any burst on that avatar SG.

I'd go with walnut, sounds delicious.

Good call . I knew the Fireburst was used in 2014 and 2015. I probably mistakenly took the walnut for Natural Burst.

According to what the factory customer care say, my guitar is natural burst. I'll upload more pics, I know walnut, and it's different.

Thanks for clarifying the colour of the new 61 reissues. Is the lacquer different as well as the stain?

Also are there any other differences compared to a Standard SG with angel ing guard?

They're actually quite different from each other.

    Body/Neck:
For the neck, the Modern Standard has the Rounded profile, and the Standard '61 has the Slim-Taper profile.

The Modern Standard uses the high heel neck joint and the neck joins the body at 17th fret, where as the Standard '61 meets at the 22nd fret. Both use the long tenon joint. The carve of the horns are also deeper and more "pointed" on the '61.

    Hardware:

Standard '61 = 61R/61T Burstbuckeres, ABR-1 bridge, vintage delux/keystone tuners, hardware is nickel finished. Ships with Gibson hardcase.

Modern Standard = 490R/490T humbucker, Nashville TOM bridge, grover rotomatic tuners, hardware is chrome finished. Ships with A soft case/bag.

In my book, a burst has ... a burst of darker color on the body contours.

Hi drBgood, if you put on google “Gibson sg natural burst” and do a research for pics, you’ll see my guitar. In the avatar you can’t appreciate the shades

2014 SG's have a "120 anniversary" inlay on the 12th fret. You might actually have a 2013 model.
Once you remove the minitune it'll have the year of your guitar stamped underneath on the headstock.

I have seen some 2014s without the "120 anniversary" 12th fret.

But you might be on to something, the serial on DD's SG shows it as a 2013. ;)

I have one of those, 2014 without the 12th fret "120 anniversary" inlay. I bought it used, but I think it was a Guitar Center only series. It came stock with no minitune.

    EDIT: Here's another one here.

And here's the video of the above mentioned 2014 with no inlay and minitune.
