I've lurking for a while, especially last month when I was contemplating a 2013 Gibson SG Future Tribute with robot tuners. I ended up buying it. My path into Gibson ownership is through an '81 LP Standard that my Dad purchased backbun the mid 80's. Not sure if it has Shaws, but it sounds great. It is a player, having seen a lot of studio use from the previous owner. Nice mojo. I've played primarily a 2000's MIM Strat Deluxe and realized I liked 12" fretboards. I saw my Sterling SUB Silo also had a 12" FB. I looked at my 81 LP and realized I liked the feels and saw that it was also 12" but of a different scale. These were my only guitars for a while but I have since added a Peavey Predator AX and Milestone (guitar, with the toaster pups). My SG Future is chocolate satin and it feels great, and the 60's asymmetric neck mixed with the 24 frets and SG slim body makes this a tone scalpel! I play many genres from gypsy- influenced harmonic minor licks, to ambient, to stoner doom blues. I'm not a shredder, I'm primarily a Bass player so I bring the heavy groove. I just purchased an Epiphone G-400 online from GC. I will pick up this weekend. It has a set neck, and was listed as wine red. It has a full Batwing, but it appears the PO may have flipped the rear humbucker around. I've been tempted to get a P90 Epi LP Special, but I liked the SG shape and set neck, that I may end up turning this to my P90 guitar. I don't think I'll rout the body, just get HB sized P90's. Great forum! My name is NomeX, and I love SG's.
