Just thought I'd introduce you to my Hamer XT.
I bought this a few years back when I started playing guitar again after a long break and wanted something that the same colours as my dream guitar as a kid, a Les Paul Cherry Sunburst. I like the really red and yellow ones more than the mellow ones!
After a couple of years I dulled the poly surface to take away the glassy shine. The benefit was a super slinky neck feel and I think the back looks great too, but I'm pretty sure I'll polish the top a bit at the next string change.
I also liked that it was a double cut cos I reckon they look kinda cool as they aren't your run of the mill LP shape.
I've used it live quite a bit and it is going to be a tough choice the next time I play in front of a crowd whether I leave this one at home and take along the SG cos I'm pretty comfortable with her in my hands, and it looks pretty nice on stage.
Sounds great too. The bridge pickup has heaps of bite!
Hope you enjoy the pics below. There's more pics here: http://www.everythingsg.com/forum/members/83-blazer-albums-hamer-sunburst.html

That's a really nice looking guitar! I always thought Hamer's were a lot of guitar for the money. I'm a little jealous! :thumb:

    Sometimes they get tired. :)
This is a Chinese made one but it does me well. It IS a really nice guitar and it didn't cost an arm or leg so it makes me double happy when I play it.

Saw Cheap Trick a few years ago and it was great to see a procession of nice custom Hamers wheeled out by Rick Neilsen. I've always liked his over the top persona. :dude:

So, after yesterday's activities I thought it was time to dig up this thread.

I decided that it was time to get some polish onto my Hamer Anne shine up the top.

Years ago I dulled the finish on the whole guitar and although I have left the neck and back dull, I decided I wanted the top shiny again.

    Here are the results.
The pic from the side shows the difference between the dulled sides and the shiny top. I also took a pic of the neck pickup cavity which shows the length of the neck tenon and the thickness of the maple cap and the maple veneer (which is thicker than I thought it would be).

The difference between what it looked like and now is quite remarkable. Just need to put strings on it tonight.

After some net searching I also found out they have ressurected the Hamer name this year for a line of 6 import guitars.

I got the Special Jr after giving up on BOTH Epi, and Gibson to produce something I like.

But you'd need to get custom chequered pickguards for both
