A lot of strap locks will poke into you when used on the upper heel-mounted strap button.

I use the Ernie Ball ones and they work great.

Grolsch bottle top washers work well too.

The planet waves elliptical strap buttons are very nice.
I put a set on my SG and have no problems with them stabbing me as they are very shallow.

I've had good experience with Planet Waves Rotating Elliptical End Pin buttons.

I've used all Schaller Strap locks for years. I use the toothpuck and white glue method for the screw. It hasn't failed me yet. (Fingers crossed)
