Hello everybody! I'm here after few years from my last post (I've had a Telecaster period and I sell some SG's, but now I'm back :) )!
And I'm back with a new guitar!
New Gibson SG Gary Clark jr. arrived just yesterday afternoon!
I opened the case, and I cannot believe it...

Happy NGD to you! Tell me more about that Custom

And sorry to hear about the Gloss Yellow Gary Clark. Notwithstanding the broken headstock, they are very hard to come by without the finish cracks, especially around the neck area.

Not really sure. If you google "Gary Clark yellow SG finish cracks" you'll find lots of examples and talk about this issue. For some reason the nitro finish just cracks, not sure if it's the color, the gloss, or a curing issue?? Most crack around the neck at the headstock, but I've seen it everywhere on the body, front, back, vertically and horizontally. I went through 3 of them, all brand new, and sent them all back because of the finish cracks , mostly around the neck area. Pretty much gave up getting a Yellow Gary Clark until I miraculously came across one with a perfect finish (long story).

    Eventually ended up with both.

Another victim of the wandering multi-tool .
    A word of advice -
If you're having a guitar shipped to you, have the accessories sent in a separate box.
It's worth the extra 25 bucks!

You think that this can be the reason?
I was thinking at a mishandling by the express courier.

It's a 2017 Custom Ebony, used but in mint conditions! ;)
It plays very well, very nice feeling from the neck (with richlite fretboard) that is something in between the chunky one on my Standards, and the '61 reissue slim taper.
The 490/498 pickups are nice and powerful, maybe too powerful, sounds good with the Kemper but i'm not totally convinced (in the last period, I discovered the P90 world and they quickly become my favourite pick ups). I was thinking maybe to put in some gold Duncan Phat Cats. However, I've other guitars (and other SG) with p90 pickups, maybe is better if I leave this Custom with some humbuckers in it..
    Give me your opinion ;)
    Maybe a classic 57..

    Anything's possible.
When you discovered the damage, where was everything?
SG hard cases are made to hold the guitar pretty firmly.
I've received an SG where all that stuff had worked its way over to the headstock area by the time it got delivered.
Then reluctantly, I had to take it in and get compensated for the damage. To me, its not worth the gamble.
Right now you can go to a website and see a beautiful new SG with some serious scratches on both ends that it got somehow.
Scratches that include a one incher on the face of the headstock.

I like this ebony SG Custom, a white pickguard wide bevel set should be fine imho .

There is no tenon cover on this model ?

..express courier delivered the guitar, package is in normal condition. I've opened the cardboard package, outside the hard case was full of pluriball.
    Very nice package.
I've opened the hard case, looked at the body of the guitar, very nice body, then I've noticed that the strings were loose..I've looked at the headstock and..disaster... :(
Everything (tools etc..) seems to be at his place, behind the (broken) headstock.

    It's like I said,
If everything was "behind the headstock", (including the tools), that's likely what caused the headstock to get broken.
Sorry it happened but you did end up with a fantastic SG !
    Consider yourself extremely lucky !
