I'll try to push you over the edge here: get an OCD. You won't regret it. Best 120 bucks I've ever spent. I push the front of my Bandit 112, and with the "classic" voice, the growl is so classic Marshall that I doubt someone could tell otherwise if blindfolded. I don't like it as my sole source of dirt on a squeaky clean channel, but stacking it with preamp gain is what makes this pedal shine.

Come to think of it, I'd love to find out what happens if you push a Vox AC10 with an OCD. I'll bet it sounds absolutely heavenly.

I'm with Plankton on the Laney front, excepting I bought the Monoprice 15 watt 1X12. Very similar to Cub12R (rebranded some say) for not too many $$. Very happy with both of mine & the <1 watt input makes it great for home playing/practice. No pedals needed.

The closest thing to that marshall tone you are after would be the marshall dsl. As someone else suggested, I would also recommend going with the dsl15. It can run plenty quiet for practice but still gives you extra umph on tap when wanted. Another option would be to buy a used DSL40 combo. I've owned one and that will definitely get close to the tone you are after. They are plentiful on the used market and I really liked the one I owned.

I found a Vox dealer in Shanghai today and they had an AC10C1 on hand for me to play. I'm sold, love the sound other than the reverb, I'm just not a reverb guy. Next time I go into Shanghai I'm picking it up along with a hardcase for my new faded.

Excellent choice! I prefer the Vox AC10 to the AC15... I'm not totally sure why; maybe it's the way the smaller 10" speaker produces that signature Vox "chime," or simply because you can get more juice from it without blowing your eardrums out. It's a great amp, now all you need is a decent OD pedal to push the front of it with... You know, for some of the crunchier stuff. :naughty:

Another vote for the OCD (or a clone) pushing an amp into distortion. It makes my little Fender Ramparte think it's a Marshall.

Well my wife was in a great mood this morning and ordered me the Joyo UD from Tao Bao for the equivalent of about 25$ shipped overnight to our house. In theory I'm picking up the Vox Amp Monday morning, but I'm now debating waiting until May when I'm back stateside to get the Sweetwater version that comes with the custom Greenback in it instead. But it means waiting until May...hoping the new pedal will keep me entertained and out of trouble until then.

Yeah it's a pretty often cloned pedal. My clone is the Mooer Hustle Drive.

I've only heard it on Youtube clips through decent headphones, but the AC10 sounds amazingly good - excellent choice.

I tried one out in the store, so couldn't really turn it up as loud as I would have liked, but it sounded fantastic - I came very close to walking out of the store with it.

NPD: Joyo UD. Everyone just left the apartment so lets see how loud I can get the Orange Crush to squeal before the neighbors bang down the door. In 48 hours the Vox will be here too.
