"When you've got wine, you don't need bread" is very sound advice.

If you have a Ferrari, do you really need a '73 Pinto?
If you have Angelina Jolie, do you really need Rosie O'Donnell?
If you have an SG, do you really need a Les Paul?

The obvious answer to all the above is "no."

theres always the SG Special (comes with p90's) or the Gary Clark Jr SG or the SG 2016 standard p90 version... Just saying, there are always better and lighter p90 options over any Les Paul in my book

Get you a LP. Just don't play it in the street. Shop around, and get one that's got that sweet les Paul tone to it. Then get you a spanky sounding Tele to add to your arsenal, and you'll be set. Get a cheap Strat to play in the street.

No doubt, I always felt Strats were made to be relic'd and beat up. I've no idea when my Strat will get its first visible ding, seems like its gonna be a long ride cuz i dont play it carefully but man is it resilient but lordy i can wait, its part of the sexiness of any Strat is the battle damage.

Certainly, if your life's aim is to die a starving alcoholic.

    This 100%

I have busked many times and nobody cares about tone, just attitude having FUN, skill enough and VOLUME!!!

I would invest more in a loud portable PA sistem, get a Pod, a mic and a Tele (the sturdiest guitar ever) and play your thing.

Albeit I own and love SGs, I would absolutely take a Tele out busking, not a SG or a LP and never ever a Strat (show some class, mate)

Well, in Spain and France, beer and wine are considered food.

And tell me that one of those dense dark UK porter or real Ale beers not filtered are not feeding you as well!!

I drank beer once in 1966 age 16 and hitching round Europe. I woke up in a German forest in the rain. Never had even the remotest inclination to drink alcohol since. So no.

I'd say it's more like "If you have apples, you don't need pears" since alcohol and food are completely different things. Or, to use your form of analogy, "If you bang Angelina Jolie, you don't need a condom" It just doesn't make sense and could be hazardous...

Just a followup, since this post got me thinking of it, out of curiosity I went to Reverb to see if there were other limited edition Les Paul's like mine up for sale. And surprise, surprise my own old one was up for sale at a great price. Not great for me but someone else snapped it up quick. Anyway I notice it's the SECOND guy to sell it since I sold it less than a year ago. Perhaps both just needed cash quick but I find it suspicious that a guitar I thought sounded too bright got bought and sold two more times in rapid succession. Maybe I just had a plain 'ol oddball dud. So ignore my suggestions on Les Pauls!

To me Les Pauls are furniture and the sound of many songs I dislike.

I admire the way they are built, so balanced and intricate, they are beautiful, cumbersome beasts (at least the regular thickness carved tops, I can dig a Special or Junior)
and I do get the tighter, focused sound as a musical tool, but I don't need it.

As for busking? That Tele idea sounds good. Perhaps a cheap knock-off, or old weird bolt-neck electric. Nothing that will get stolen or easily damaged. Also on the street, you should look cool with the guitar, get one that complements You.

That's what I did, but mostly because I couldn't find a moderately priced P90 SG around here. I got a Tokai "Love Rock" Special. It's a great sounding guitar and really nice looking too. But for me the ergonomics are off, it sits in the wrong place when I play sitting down. Also, accessing the upper frets is much more difficult, and even though it's not something I'm doing all the time, with my SGs, Firebird and Flying V it's a non-issue. So the "LP" probably gets played the least. I may swap it out for one of those new Epi Pelham Blue Specials.

Busking on the street with a new Les Paul might be counter productive hehe
