Seriously. I'm sure people here would help or we could get someone else from MLP or somewhere to do it. The current ones aren't here enough to get rid of the daiy attacks from the spammers.

I'm pretty sure you can't be a moderator if you are a complete asshole.

That leaves all of the regulars out....

seems to be a leak in the perimeter...
    rats gettin' in.
But I reported one yesterday and it's gone today.
I reported the skank casino today, let's see how
    long until somebody dumps it.

I'm not a control kind of a person, so I could
    never be an admin.

I'm a mod on a busy forum, with over 500,000 members, and a prime target for spammers over the years. Most recently they introduced a policy of new members requiring mod approval for their first post (on top of requiring two replies before starting a topic). This seems to have been a pretty effective intervention, even if it does mean first time posters may have to wait for their first post to appear.

Having lots of mods doesn't necessarily help, it depends on times zones, and how active they are. You also need to recruit mods who are on the same wavelength as the existing mods/admins - not always easy! :)

You flag the guys until the robot gets the news and calls voxman. I have never found a forum with real "moderation," there are just varying levels of censorship and some fora become the mods' little fiefdoms.

I'm a mod in an ancient PC gaming forum with, like, 8 regular users and 2 new posts a week.

That's about as much control as I feel comfortable exerting over the interwebs at this moment in time.

We need some Southern Hemisphere mods so us down here in Australia don't have to be flooded with that casino ****. Apart from me, there's only about five other Aussie users I can think of, so I don't really know who they'd make a mod. And I doubt they'd put a 15 year old in charge of the site

As i'm in Europe, I offered my services as I'm waking up as California is going to bed. No reply yet though.

Oddly, when you look at the Staff Members, the two other mods haven't logged into ESG for over 6 months. Seems it's only Voxman left, so I would give him a break, he can't be everywhere at the same time.

Which is exactly why we need more mods. I mean, Voxman's the one doing all the work and obviously he won't be able to keep up while the states are asleep and we're being spammed here in Australia

Which is why I started the topic. We hardly have enough for the U.S. because Voxman is the only mod that's ever active anymore.

Petition the Admin as I am only a Librarian. It wasn't always like that but when the forum changed owners the privileges changed to suit the new owners desires. He is passed on info as needed. I can Ban, edit, and delete, and, I don't have access to IP Addys, which, in the past, Mods could personally " check " out the intended member and 9 x's out of 10 picked em off before they even got to the pass. I have no access to the software, filters or code only the Admin can write code or adjust filters! Attempting to be a " full " ? time musician takes as much work as any full time job, maybe more if you've ever owned a full time business. When you commit to highly challenging roles the personal practice schedule is intense hence I can not do 24/7 here. Only can look in before "work " and after. My MO is free speech, even if someone dead wrong that's their business not mine, it's just their opinion not mine, while I'll admit to having a good chuckle every now and then. Also, no " sides " are ever taken when members have " Tussy fits " with another member!
