    Hi, Everyone:

I just purchased a 2018 Gibson SG Junior and I will be receiving it in a week or so. I know several people here have purchased them. I'm looking forward to playing it. For those of you who have also bought one, what do you like best about this model?

Can I ask why you decided to purchase it online? Especially without ever having played the neck...

I am thinking of getting one, and so far I haven't seen one in a local shop.

I have also stopped being a neck snob a long time ago, i have paper thin Charvel necks and baseball telecaster and Gibsons.

To the OP, simplicity is the best feature of a Jr...

I dont mean to come across condescending at all or anything, I'm honestly just curious what the OPs thoughts are. I would be very nervous about it.

I have bought several online. with mixed results, but nothing I wasn't able to handle. Lately just parts. Today I got a tele neck that was freeking amazing and cheap. dual action truss rod, not a fret out of shape and so I fitted it to a strat. I am in love with the action. It is so tight I feel like I am going to break it. But there you go, you never know, right. My music choices where I live are just sad. Not a big music scene around here. Nearest good dealer is 90 miles away.

I've had good experiences buying online, plus I've had both thicker necks and slim tapers, and my left hand handles both equally good.

I get that, i moved from Nashville to a little town in Northeast Alabama. Not a single store sells music anything within an hour and 20 minute drive. Then its a little local place that only caries Ernie balls, and has 12 guitars on the wall...

I just wouldn't trust the postal service with my guitar. They could drop it and never even tell you

Edit:Ernie balls at double the price

I would say playability/feel is what I am liking the best so far.And thats the first thing mentioned in the Gibson sales pitch. It comes with ..009 gauge strings which feel right on this neck.I usually use 10's or 11's

I normally put 9s on my guitars also. My 2002 Special Faded Cherry with the crescent moon inlays up for sale and while I will part with that, I do love the SG platform. And in particular these SG Juniors.

Congrats on the 2018 SG Junior!

I usually prefer to try before you buy, but sometimes we have to order guitars online when a particular model is not available locally. As far as shipping goes, how do you think they get from the factory to the store or online retailer? A guitar can be damaged during shipping regardless of which carrier is used.

I have ordered guitars online in the past where some were in cases, some in gig bags and they all survived without any issues.

I've never had a guitar damaged during shipment and hope that's not the case this time (UPS is the shipper).

My Junior is a few years older (as in, 53), but what I love the most about it is how versatile it is for being so simple. I practice at home through an old Tweed Champ - one knob - and the range of tones I can get is amazing.

    Congrats!

Took delivery of the SG Jr. yesterday. I am very impressed with it - playability, looks, etc. I've already modded it - reflector knobs, dial pointers, and a Cream Tone harness that they make for the SG Jr. and LP Jr. Very happy with this purchase. Pictures tomorrow!

    I've purchased 3 Gibsons and 3 other guitars sight-unseen.

I got hands-on descriptions of 2, the others I just closed my eyes and jumped.

    All worked out very well.

    Lucky, I guess.

I have had very good experiences with buying on the internet or sight unseen. I know others have had bad experiences, I've been lucky I guess.
