I see threads about preference in knobs and watch them like I would a curling match, fascinated by the depth of commitment of most commenters. Not that knobs aren't important, I threw back a gorgeous Epi Les Paul tribute at the GC because they were too cheap to replace the cracked knobs on the full price display model. The thing is, I have only once in 50 years swapped knobs on a guitar from what ever it had when I got it, unless they rotted away. I switched from the stock MiM Fender knobs on my Strat for some fancy and heavier abalone insets, purely cosmetic. I do have a preference for a particular knob, but I probably won't be buying 68 of them to replace the others. The Gibson speed knobs from my '14 Les Paul Melody Makers are my faves by a long shot. Working on stage I use the controls a lot and these are the easiest to feel and never slip off of. Cosmetically, smooth speed knobs are probably my favorites on SGs and LPs, but I am fine with top hats. I dislike witch hats. no particular reason. How about you?
