Damn, my Turbo Rat just kinda died on me today, and I have no backup..... shame on me.
Guess that's my cue to finally start looking elsewhere.
I'm looking for that Sabbath, Master of Reality to Sabotage kinda sound.
I was looking towards the Digitech Metal Master..... inexpensive and reviews are good.
Anyone have any insight on this?
I haven't shopped for distortion in a long time, so I'm kinda lost here.
Any ideas to help me make a decision are appreciated.

Well, I've replaced my TurboRat with a Digitech Hot Rod this weekend.
After a few hours of playing with it I'm actually quite content with this little box. That morph knob is pretty cool.
I can pretty much nail the Rat sound with it and then some.
I'll let one of my friends, who knows a lot more about electronics than me, check my Rat and see if it can be repaired.
That would make a good backup.
Now the only thing that bothers me is my amp..... I'm so fed up with that twinkly Fender sound of my Hot Rod Deluxe. It was kinda ok when I had my Fender Telecaster, and I was suffering from Fenderitis..... but no more.
I'm totally illiterate as far as amps go, but I pretty much know what I'm looking for as far as sound goes.
One thing is sure though..... no more twinkly Fender sound. I want that dirty full bottom grind.
Hmmm, guess I'll go post in the Amp forum for some advice.....

Mesa Boogie is good for gettin' rid of the twinkleys. That ought to be their next ad slogan!

Seriously...there are a lot of options out there. It probably depends on how fat your wallet is and how much access you have to different amps. :D I've never heard anyone say a Fender Bassman is too bright though.

    Some Rat news.

There is the Rat, Vintage Rat, Turbo Rat.

Then there is the one with extra settings (like the bias on the transistors, the feedback, the overall gain and drive) external with Hi and Lo Z inputs and outputs. They call it the Lab Rat.

There's the one that is even grungier toned - the Dirty Rat.

Another company is making Rat clones. They call it the Rat Bastard.

And a grungier version - the Dirty Rat Bastard.

The model thats packed in cheeze to simulate that Rat "presence". Its the "I smell a Rat" version.

They've got some factory 2nds that might crap out on you during a gig. They're rebadged "Rat Fink".

    I say R

    I say R-A

I'm with Vox. Get it fixed. It's a good pedal.
