Last amp I had posted, was the Marshall SL5. The tone I had been searching so long for. Sounded awesome through its beefy cab, and V30... unplug that, run it into my 1960AV... and close to musical nirvana.

My collection of Marshalls with the THR and Tweaker... I was good. Or at least thought I was.

Then one day I walk into GC, check what they have in stock. As I'm walking past the used amps, a very nice Mesa 2x12 vertical and angled cab catches my eye.

As I'm admiring it, my eyes start to move up, as the Sales Manager walks up to me and says... "See that, a 2550." Wait, what? A Jubilee?

In my day... there was the JCM-800, then there was the Jubilee. A hot-rodded 800. The amp of my dreams. The SL5, was a replication of the range of tone Slash liked, from the Jubilee line. But the Jubilee... it is not. With the gain stack/choke/MV... these amps were considered the @#$%. So much so, people were falling over themselves to buy the silver 5/20 watt reissues and 100 watt monsters.

This was actually a 2553. The 50/25 watt version in a short box. (basically 2/3 the size of a normal full-size head).

I knew if I didn't grab it, it wouldn't be there long. Probably not past the next day. So, later that night I called back and made sure it was still there. It was, so the enxt morning when the doors opened, it walked out with me, about 30 minutes later.

Best sounding amp I've owned. This is what I wanted, all those years ago... when I got boned by MF, selling out of JCM-800s and getting stuck with a JCM-900 4100DR instead.

    PICS!

    1988 Marshall 2553 JCM 50/25 "Jubilee"

Haha... that's about the same conversation I have in my head, every time I plug into it, which is daily. I've had it about 2 - 3 months now.

The nice thing about them, is they sound as good, in 25w mode as the 50w... and that's no joke. I believe most people that own one, will tell you the same. So it actually makes it pretty tameable for bedroom use. Its just my step-son and me now, since the ex left... but it doesn't disturb the neighbors, even with the thin walls here. I'm waiting to move, so I can do a studio... and really cut it loose. I'm actually hoping to get a property that has a large 50' metal workshop with a concrete floor, then I'm going to stick that big ass 4x12 in the middle of it, and let that Jubilee rip.

It'll be kind of like this. But, better. :D

Yeah, it is. Its kind of a double-edged sword. Its so nice, I wonder why I play my other guitars sometimes. I'm thinking, "why the Hell aren't I playing the Custom?"

The Studio Pro comes closest to it, because they both have the '57s in the bridge and I had her setup as close to the Custom, as possible. But the neck on the Custom, is something else. They say its a 60s slim, but its more of a hybrid. Its got a wide, flat fretboard, slightly rounded neck profile. Just feels right in the hands. Even with the price tag, I knew soon as the guy handed it to me, I was going to buy it.

Congrats on really knowing what you want and finding it.
    Such a meaningful NAD!
I'm not even jealous because I dont have the experience or knowledge to appreciate it.

Of all the stuff I have, this amp and that LP Custom are the culmination of close to 3 decades, of searching.

I've wanted the Custom since I was a teen, and the Jubilee, would have been a JCM-800 instead, but I got screwed by Musician's Friend, back in the early 90s.

Been searching for the sound I get from the two, for a lot of years. I like my other guitars and amps enough, and I do actually play them all. But, those two, something special is going on.

Don't really need the knowledge, and you'll learn a lot on the quest, but you'll know it, when you hear it. And it'll give you goosebumps.

GibsonKramer, I understand what you feel.

With a good amp you live the music, feeling vibrations with the body is a real pleasure.

I hope you have cool Neighbors ...
