Last amp I had posted, was the Marshall SL5. The tone I had been searching so long for. Sounded awesome through its beefy cab, and V30... unplug that, run it into my 1960AV... and close to musical nirvana. My collection of Marshalls with the THR and Tweaker... I was good. Or at least thought I was. Then one day I walk into GC, check what they have in stock. As I'm walking past the used amps, a very nice Mesa 2x12 vertical and angled cab catches my eye. As I'm admiring it, my eyes start to move up, as the Sales Manager walks up to me and says... "See that, a 2550." Wait, what? A Jubilee? In my day... there was the JCM-800, then there was the Jubilee. A hot-rodded 800. The amp of my dreams. The SL5, was a replication of the range of tone Slash liked, from the Jubilee line. But the Jubilee... it is not. With the gain stack/choke/MV... these amps were considered the @#$%. So much so, people were falling over themselves to buy the silver 5/20 watt reissues and 100 watt monsters. This was actually a 2553. The 50/25 watt version in a short box. (basically 2/3 the size of a normal full-size head). I knew if I didn't grab it, it wouldn't be there long. Probably not past the next day. So, later that night I called back and made sure it was still there. It was, so the enxt morning when the doors opened, it walked out with me, about 30 minutes later. Best sounding amp I've owned. This is what I wanted, all those years ago... when I got boned by MF, selling out of JCM-800s and getting stuck with a JCM-900 4100DR instead. PICS! 1988 Marshall 2553 JCM 50/25 "Jubilee" Coming home! Home!
