Nice! I'm shooting for the 2017 special sg high performance in vintage sunburst
Love it....except for the all black knobs. I'd buy one in a second if I was looking for one currently.
Thanks for the review! Not that I don't dig my 2016, but the 2017 sure sounds like it has more of what I like in a SG.
Ordered a 2017 Standard T in the new Cherry Burst last night. Got a ship notification this morning. Should be here mid-next week, at which point I'll post some pics. *fingers crossed*
I hope that finish is fine, don' t forget pictures Divebomb
You got it. As a gearhead and someone who's always scouring forums to see other dudes' new gear, let me just say... I'm on it!
You never know, you may luck out with different knobs

I've also seen the poker chip on some, different truss rod covers and switch tips on the Sweetwater site.
Right-o Scott-o. I thought they started doing that yet not one of the sites that popped up for reference mentioned that!!! And honestly, I got tired of searching for the elusive answer for this serial number on the World Wide Web.
And yet, even so, how do you accurately date a guitar like this that has falsely used '17' in it's serial number as the year of manufacture? There has to be a hidden code in there somewhere eh? I wondered for a minute if the '44' was for the week of the year but, right now it is only the 37th week of 2016 so,... How the fvk do you date this bitch?
And don't say buy her flowers!
Where's the pics bro !??
I'm dying to see what 'rolled' binding looks like!
I'm leaving here to look for a NGD thread that hopefully you have posted up already! LOL
Congrats! Your excitement is giving me major GAS pains. Nice work buddy! Sounds like an SG I would appreciate.
I created this account because I got my 2017 SG a week or so ago.
I have been playing guitar off and on for some time but never owned an SG.
I found this forum while searching about pickups and was going to show you guys my new 2017 SG and then saw that it had already been posted...???
I am surprised and confused...
The pictures at the top of this thread are from my original post over and TGP.
I got really lucky, I had been going back and forth on the SG, I went to American Musical Supply to order a 2016 and give it a go although I really wanted more of the '61 look. Low and behold the 2017 was available for order, it was what I wanted with the smaller pickguard etc. Ordered Wednesday, small confusion in address and it showed up Saturday.
I have posted more pictures in the TGP thread of the back neck joint etc.
I also posted it on TGP but being new I cannot post links.
Thanks for popping in! Welcome!
Thank you for the welcome. It really is a fine guitar, it needed some neck adjustment.
I have a lot of SG questions, time to poke around.
A few more posts, and you'll be able to post your link.
Beautiful guitar by the way!
Here are some pictures from my thread on TGP that I never put on MLP, for some reason the MLP page never got any responses.
Where can I get a black poker chip and some black knobs with reflectors?
Meh you've seen one SG and you've seen em all
J/K HNSGD shes a beauty!
Heh thanks, I guess they are all a lot alike but this one is MINE so it's better, right?
Soooo my Cherry Burst arrived yesterday.
The good news: I am very critical of Gibson's quality assurance or lack thereof in recent years. This guitar plays unbelievably well. Good fret work, good nut slotting, no finish defects. All are common issues these days with Gibson USA but not in this instance.
The bad news: I loathe off-center seams and this one has one. Drives me batshit. Yes, I purchased sight-unseen. Yes, this might not be an issue for some. I've been around long enough to be picky and unfortunately it's going back for an exchange. Feel free to ridicule me. hahaha. I'll roll the dice once more and see what happens.
Low quality cell phone pic below. Wasn't worth taking the time with high res. since it got packed back up quickly. The seam is even more pronounced at certain angles than in this pic. And the finish looks almost satin here. It's far more alluring in person.
I almost got the cherry burst but that classic solid red realyl does it for me, the only thing I would have preferred would have been white.
I would have sent it back with that seam issue too. That body should have been earmarked for the ebony finish so it wouldn't be noticeable. I consider that to be a quality control failure.
