Yes. Placed a pre order at CME on 05Nov, went in to pick it up on the 20Nov. From what the salesperson told me they were allotted 4 burgundys and 4 (now 3) pelhams. They come from the factory with 9s on them, so I had them refile the nut and set it up for my 11-50 preference.

That's correct. The 1961-63 SG Specials were never called Les Pauls for some reason, only the other three SG types.

Actually, 1960 Les Paul shaped Specials still had the Les Paul script:

I meant that it's possible some of the early SG shaped Specials made in late 1960 kept that silkscreen.

The "SG" name on those Les Paul shaped Specials was just a generic ordering code for "Solid Guitar". I don't ever call them SGs because they were still the Les Paul design, regardless of what the catalog said for a year. And it just causes too much confusion.

    They look awesome!

But... I still haven't figured out why these new Specials and the Junior's come with a hard case, while the flagship SG, the Standard only comes with a soft case? Who in their right mind would even by the Standard when you have to add $200 for a factory Gibby hard case. Considering the Standard '61 comes with the hard case, for the extra $100 spent, you end up with twice the guitar! Bad marketing? This is all IMHO of course :D

Wow that is pretty odd. I feel like all Gibson standards "should" come with a hard case. Perhaps Gibson didn't think that they would sell and would need a little extra incentive for the Jrs and the Specials?

The SG Special looks fantastic, thanks for posting pictures. I love the binding with the dots, somehow simple but classy.

The 2019 standard, a bit like the 2016 standard (also a batwing?), doesn't seem decent value compared to the Special, imho. The '61 would also be my option for a bit more $$.

Yes, i kind of don't like the squared off part between the neck pickup and the neck. would rather it flared out towards the edge of the P-90, but I'll get used to it.
