    Hello all,
    Merry Christmas !
I have only been playing a short time but already have a Fender T-Bucket acoustic (my first) a 2019 LP Standard HP and a modified Travelcaster in my collection. I recently put a 2013 SG Future On layaway in a small local guitar shop that I will pick up after the holidays.
I have a question? Does the SG sound similar to a LP ? If so, I may change pups. All pearls of wisdom are welcome.

    Welcome BluJ.

You can make a SG sound like a LP and a Lp sound like a SG. But yes at the base, the do sound different. Don't go on thinking of changing pickups on a guitar you haven't even tried yet. There are so many adjustments you can make on a guitar for it to sound like what you like.

When you get your guitar, give it a good setup. If you don't know how, have a pro do it. It is often what will make you love or hate a guitar. Then play with the pickups height, that is the most overlooked and cheapest (free actually) modification you can do that will have the greatest influence on your tone.

And now ... you'll have to show us what gear you own, or we might think this is all made up on your part ;)

Thanks for the advice. It has the stock 57 Classic/57 Classic+ pups in it now. I’ll see how they sound first. Also, I’ll ask if it’s been setup, if not, I’ll have the seller do it. He’s one of these guys that’s been doing it forever and the locals Ive met swear by his work.
He is currently is setting up my Travelcaster and installing DS SSL-1 / SSL -5 pups. I’ll post that pic when it comes back.

Merry Christmas and welcome to the site. Before you switch out your pups, I would spend some time getting acquainted with your SG and learning the full compliment of sounds you can get out of your guitar. I've played an SG for over 40 years and I think you can get as wide a range of sounds off an SG as you can from a Les Paul, if not more. I also agree with the others that in general you should not switch out your pickups til you can hear what your current set up can do for you.

You must live on the West Coast for your gear to stand like that

    Welcome!

The SG is more ergonomic to play compared to any other guitar IMO.

At some point in time one has to jump off the pickup upgrade treadmill and just play the guitar.

Once you discover P-90’s, the chase for different pickups will come to an end.
