My first P90 guitar. 2018
Sweeeet! What a beauty!
Congratulations, and Happy NGD to ya! :)
Uhhh... **** yeah!
Nice! Love P90’s - congrats!
Congrats on your first p-90 guitar. Have you played it yet and if sp, do you notice a big difference between the humbucker pickups and the p-90s?
I just love the Gibson logo on those
P-90s are not hum buckers... and vicey versey.
They are totally different animals. Played clean, they can sound
quite similar, but not totally similar. They are both accurate.
They both sound great... in their own way.
A guitarist needs to own both, IMHO. Humbuckers will drive an amp
harder IMHO... as they were designed to do. P-90 pickups have a classic
tone that cannot be improved... which is why they are still in production.
P-90 pickups are single coils, invented in 1945 when Gibson was
able to get back to making musical instruments instead of radar gear
for the Navy.
Hum bucking pickups were invented in like 1957, when engineers realized
that guitarists were needing to play in ever more complex electronic environments.
Hum buckers were intended to solve problems that didn't exist when P-90s were
invented. That's how fast our technology changes. And it's speeding up.
I own one P-90 guitar, with two pickups. I have it wired so that when I flip
to the middle position, the whole guitar turns into a big hum bucker.
I find this useful, and play the middle position a lot.
Congratulations to the OP for getting an excellent instrument.
Simple and good.
I learn something everyday from this site Col.
Thanks for the info
P-90’s are my favorite.
i like it a lot, congrats. Love the classic design with a twist: that old school headstock logo. Makes it a unique variation on a perennial great model. Enjoy it!
