New here, just wanted to say hello and Im glad to be back in the SG family! Had it for a few weeks now but just getting around to posting. This is quite possibly my favorite guitar ever out of the 30+ I have owned over the years. Its now my new #1 and the '57s sound amazing with my Fender Bassbreaker 45. Perfect SG IMO.

Man I had a tough time deciding between the burst and the heritage cherry lol. Both are beautiful.

I had trouble going against cherry, but I chose black and love it. Its my #1 too. Gibson really made a great SG on 2017. I am playing through a Princeton, and IMHO it sounds great. Enjoy that great looking SG.

Welcome! Beautiful SG! And if it sounds and plays like the 2017s I've played, it sounds and plays as good as it looks :naughty:

Yea; they got chintzy bevels & wrong body shapes & cutaways.

Prove it. Same body shape and cutaways. Lines up perfectly against the body outline of my other SG's. Not everyone thinks over-beveled, prissy short neck joint SG's are the only game in town. You must be one of them there SG fancy lads.

OP - how's the balance? Does it have neck dive? I’m curious if the Grovers make it neck heavy.

I realise Dickey001's comments are annoying, irritating, repetitive, and unnecessary in this and many other threads. I also realise you'd rather reply than simply put him on ignore, but when doing so, please don't stoop down to his level and start insulting SGs too. "Over"-bevelled - how can that be the case if the bevels are just as on the original design? "Prissy", how so? In the end you risk upsetting other SG enthusiasts in just the way he does, rather than getting to him.

By all means, call him out for being a ****, but please be civil towards SGs! ;)

That sums it up pretty well. I'm sick of his bevel fetish.

Bevels are what makes an SG a beautiful guitar, vs. one that looks like it was stamped out by a cookie cutter factory worker on Friday afternoon who couldn't wait to get off from work. The '017 bevels are chintzy, the cutaway shape is wrong,(when compared to Custom Shop or vintage original)the color is wrong (only cherry)plastics are wrong, and, worst of all, they are gravitating back to the "cold chisel" look of the "horns". Not at all aesthetically appealing in my book.
If you can't stand someone whose opinion differs from the rest of the "SG lemmings", then skip over & don't read my posts. Then go out & buy a Norlin era guitar. Simple as that.

I've posted this before, & I'll post it 1 more time. Although still not 100% true to vintage original, here is what an aesthetically pleasing SG should look like. Don't agree with me, I really couldn't care less. Best SG.JPG

Dickey, I happen to agree with you; that is a very beautiful SG. Even though I'm not a fan of any cherry finish.

However, what I'd like you to take on board is simply the fact that this is someone's NGD thread.

If it were a thread about the 2018 SGs, then your comments would not have been out of place, even if they provoked some lively debate. But this is a NGD thread; someone just bought an SG that they obviously like (and they have every right to be proud of it), and this is their thread to tell us about it. If it doesn't please your eye or suit your taste, can't you just respect their choice of instrument and move on without comment? This is not the place for negativity or unpleasant comments.
