2017 SG Special in Satin Cherry @ $599. Mahogany body, neck, rosewood board, mini humbuckers, vintage tuners, case candy, gig bag, and made in the USA. NO pickguard. An awesome bargain if you're looking for the 24 fret Special.

Strange thing, Gibson's website has no info on this 2017 variant, just the Special "T" model with full size humbuckers and a pickguard.

What a beauty! Looks like to me a prototype for the 2018s, or just them getting old parts out the window. Still, a rather nice look without the pickguard.

Congratulations! Excellent choice of guitar. Nothing like a brand new Gibson in a box
...and then you take it out of the box. *grins

I love the look of your instrument. It's a 21st century SG. I have the 2012 version
which was a prototype of what you have.

Yours is an improved model with 24 frets. Very cool, and you got an excellent price.
You'll hear a lot of noise about the mini hum buckers from players who don't know how
to use them. But I love the tones from mine. So ignore all comments from the
peanut gallery, and just play music. There are other types of mini-humbuckers, and I'm
not sure exactly what gets installed in the SGs.

My belief is that these are Gibson's "495" mini hum buckers and that they are the same as
what gets installed in Gibson's Les Paul Deluxe as well as the Firebirds. Players have said that
the Firebird p'ups are much hotter and use ceramic magnets. That may have been true once,
but is it true now? I dunno. But I do know that the mini hums in your guitar will have excellent
tone, a great growl in the low end, and a fine clear jangle in the highs. Personally, I feel that
my SG special has a unique voice all its own, and doesn't sound like anything else.

And that's why I wanted one. This is a guitar for a player who wants the unique tone of the
SG with minis. To my ear it's a very versatile tone, and can be run through f/x very well,
AND it can be played LOUD. *grins

You took excellent pictures of your new guitar. We can all feel the excitement
just by looking at your photos.

Soon we'll want a full report on how this cool new SG fits into your music.

This is almost exactly something I built... if you take a 50s tribute and replaced the P90 with mini-humbuckers get this exact guitar.

I put a pickguard on it, though. :-)

Wow. I have a '16 Special in sunburst because I didn't want a cherry SG (because I'm a rebel like that), but seeing one sans pickguard is making me regret that decision. HNGD! She looks like a real player!

Thanks everyone! Always been a Standard guy, but this satin is growing on me.... a little ;). The mini's are different. Not sure what to make of them yet, they're definitely a humbucker through! ;)

Hey, now that's an idea!

Batwing or small? What is the distance between the pickup rings?

Awesome SG, congrats! What do you think of those minis?

That sounds like one of those old SG deluxes they did in the 90's (or 2000's). If I ever see one at a good price, I'm buying it

I was going to go with the small guard (teardrop). I haven't measured yet. I was going to try and find a pickguard for the factory 2018 Special w/mini's and use that. Although, the multi-ply aftermarket pickguards do look better. ;)

If you don't mind, where did you order it (the SG) from?

I bought a 50s Tribute used and stripped it. I might have a small pickguard for you if you measure between the pickups.
