This baby just arrived today and after I unboxed her and checked for flaws (there were none) I plugged her in and...bliss. I gotta say I haven't had a guitar come with this nice of a setup in a very long time. Low action, zero buzz, pickup height is spot-on, frets are dressed properly. I'm totally diggin' it. I wanted to make it look more like a '72 Special though so I ordered a blank truss rod cover, switch-washer (I didn't know that it came with one so now I have 2), and a amber switch tip. I think I'll keep the current knobs since I'm not really into the Speed Knobs. I'll have to post some more pics after I have the new parts on.

Put a Harmonica on it, and I'd think it was a 70s Standard. Boy, that's nice.

I came close to buying one of these a few times. I love the satin finishes on the specials, (which I think looks better than the satin finished on the "faded" series) and it's gonna look cool when you break it in with a bit of personalized play wear. My inexperience with mini-HBs always warded me off though.

    Welcome to ETSG...

The Mini Humbuckers have a fan club on these boards.
I'm a member in good standing. So I say a hearty " good choice" to
    the OP.

Anyone who has doubts about the mini hums just ought to play it.
That's how you know. Any guitar, any pickups can be hyped by someone
who likes them but turn out disappointing to someone who doesn't.

Me, I like them. I've been playing mine since 2012, and seem to love
my SG special more all the time. There are several recent threads on
these pickups, with a lot of interesting comments.

I put Witch Hat knobs on my SG... some '70s instruments had those
although most of them sported "speed" knobs.

Congrats. Col Mustard is right about the minihumbuckers getting a lot of ink on this site. I guess it's mostly because the 2018 specials are so affordable AND a bit different and that generates interest to discuss the mini-humbuckers. They aren't on too many recent models and even between those models there seem to be some differences in the pickups judging by part numbers. So it's been an interesting thing to explore for gear junkies.

For tone junkies though, the minihumuckers offer some real variety over the standard full size humbucker options. I love the way the tone pots in the 2018 special work, you can really dial in tones finely with them. The combo is good for experimentation, exploration, inspiration. Enjoy the journey!
