Got tired of dealing with the neck dive on the 2016 Special HP :(. It was under 45 day trial so I sent it packing. Decided to go with the one I had always wanted. 2018 Standard in Autumn Shade. :D

Nice! I have the same one. Next step, get those circuit boards out of there!

Maybe I am missing something here, but if your not into that why don’t you just purchase a different guitar? There is no shortage of beautiful SG’s that come without a circuit board. Why rip one out?

Love that color! I wasn't crazy about some of the recent changes by Gibson, but I am very glad they finally started offering more colors for the SG.

And I agree about the circuit board, there's nothing wrong with them. Only cork sniffers with Historics will claim they are inferior in any way, and I say that being the proud owner of a Historic SG! A lot of things when it comes to Gibson are like with Harley Davidson; the "faithful" reject change even when it's actual progress and there's no reason to. For example, the tuners that come on Historics are 12:1 ratio, fucking absurdly crude for a new guitar in 2018. Hell, that was crude in the '80s.

Great color. I love the SG bursts. I have a 2014 in Fireburst and a 2017 Cherryburst.

Why? Not a thing wrong the circuit board. Actually a very elegant (and modern) solution to wiring up an electric guitar IMO.

    Anyway, beautiful guitar OP!

So, how are the '61 pickups? I've heard great things about the '17 and '18 SG Standards and since the pickups are the biggest difference and I ordered an '18 for the finish, I am curious.

I have both, '17 and '18 Standards. From what I can tell everything about them are identical EXCEPT for the pickups.

When I first got the 2018, I thought the '61s were the greatest, and don't get me wrong, they are awesome. Pretty much like the '57s but with a just a little more bite/grit.

It's hard to have a favorite, but I'm back using the '57s a lot more :D

It all depends on what you want. 57s have A2 magnets so they're smoother and warmer. The 61s are more like T-Tops, with A5 magnets so they're brighter and sharper. I haven't tried '61s yet but I always prefer A5s so I would probably like them better.

Well I really like the 57 Classics in my LP Traditional but everything I have read say that the 61's also sound great. I guess I will find out today when my guitar is delivered! Thanks for the input!

Gibson makes good pickups. You certainly don't have to worry about them sounding bad. And having a little variety from your LP is a good thing. I think you made the right choice.

I like a warmer humbucker myself but since I recently purchased a 2017 Epiphone G400 that has warmer sounding pups, I appreciate the variety that each one brings to the table.
