Found this on GC Online listed as Natural. After looking online it looked like it could be a Korina or Walnut. Judging by the pick guard, it was probably the walnut.

I took delivery today and I am very pleased. I wish the neck was a little chunkier like my 1966 G-400, but the color and fretwork will make me forget about it. I can't even see the fret ends on the fingerboard. The body is 4 or five pieces of solid wood with no veneer. The tuners are aligned well, unlike many of my other G-400s where one will be a little off. There are a few dings, but I don't mind.

I wasnt looking for another G-400, but I always keep an eye out for Vintage or interesting models. This may be my Drop-C machine.

Congrats on a fine guitar! I think they used white walnut (butternut) on these which is a nice timber.

I've never seen that finish before. Looks interesting, but I can't decide if I like it. :hmm:

Glad you're enjoying your new guitar!

Sorry to reply to a late thread. I just bought one of these off of Reverb. Just knew I wanted it, bought it before it disappeared. Then came here to research what it was! Can’t wait to get it.

Wow... I know I replied earlier, but I really like this blonde beauty.
Never heard of a guitar made of butternut, but I'm sure Epiphone's wood
buyers go everywhere in search of something to make guitars out of.

Pretty cool. And welcome to ETSG!
Now I think they should make some Les Pauls out of Teak.

That's a very unique finish. I like it. I've always liked things that were different from the normal crowd. Most SGs are Cherry. Mine is cherry.

Thanks for the replies everyone. UPS is saying it will be delivered tomorrow, then 24 hours climatizing before the unboxing. It is going to be a long few days!

    What ?

Is it shipped in a freezer trailer and you live in the tropics ?

I sometimes locally buy guitars with no case when it's like minus 25°C and blowing snow, put it on the front seat of the car with the heater full on, walk 100 feet with it in my gloved hand when I get home, from car to house with roaring wood stove and never had a single problem with even the cheapest ones.

So what's that 24 hours acclimatation thing about for a 10 or 15 year old solid body guitar that might have seen even worst treatment ? Maybe if it was a $5000 acoustic Gibson, but in this case, you're torturing yourself for nothing.

I was raised Roman Catholic. I like to torture myself :ohno:! I actually live in a sauna, the guitar is coming from Nanook of Frank Zappa fame.

Nah, just heard it is better for preventing neck bowing, twisting and the finish.

    Seriously, thanks for the information.

Have actually ordered guitars from Sweetwater, they have a sticker telling you not to open the box for 24 hours. Go figure. Must be lawyer inspired, too many people cutting themselves with box cutters in an excited state of anticipation to see their new guitar!
