Well I couldn’t resist. Even though I already own 4 other SG’s, 3 with P-90’s, this Special was screaming at me to bring it home. So like all guitars I buy, the first thing I do is give it a setup. This one didn’t actually need too much adjustment but I did get the neck and bridge to where I like them. The fret board was very dry so I gave it a once over with some ColorTone lemon oil. So the neck.... I love chunky necks. I have two SG Classics that are so comfortable! I also have a 2014 SG Original that is more a slim taper neck which I also quite enjoy, but not as much as the rounded necks on the classics. The neck on this special is not a dead match as my SG Original. I would say it’s in-between the two which is a welcome surprise! This guitar shreds!! It feels so good and I have to say, the overall finish quality is something of an improvement from some of the more recent Gibson’s I have handled in the last 8 years! I love this guitar!! The only downside is the taper on the pots is drastic. I will be pulling the PCB and wiring in my own harness. Flirting with the idea of throwing some spare SD Vintage P90’s in this guitar. Although I do love Gibson P90’s!
Gorgeous. The more I see of these the more I like them. Although I have never been much of a P-90 fan maybe it's time to give them another shot.
Damn. I want that guitar more than life, but I just bought an '18 special and stuck p90s in it to get something close to that. I should have waited a year. That's a gorgeous guitar. Probably the most 'perfect' guitar in the world, imo. Congrats!
Beautiful! I played nothing but P-90's back in my gigging days (long time ago)....these days I'm strictly a humbucker guy, only because as I got older the more any noise bothered me....BUT P-90's ROCK!!!!
I’d really have to see the burgundy in person to be certain. If I got the Pelham blue I would want to sell my 17 standard. If I got the burgundy I’d sell my 91 red. I’d be also selling my 11 60’s with either color purchased.
Congratulations! That's a lovely SG... SG with P-90s and a wrapover bridge is one of the classic tones... play it hard.
I fell in love with wraparounds after playing and buying my ‘99 SG Junior. I can’t explain what it is, but it has a Unique feel to it that is just a pleasure to play.
I like the 2019 SG Special LE, or as of today not exactly LE, now "Original Collection". (Old thread I know...)
