Im picking this up tomorrow, a 2005 Epiphone Elitist, with case and literature. Im excited as Ive heard good things about the quality of these Japanese made SGs. I have a Japanese Fender Telecaster thats superb so Im hoping the Epiphone will compare in quality and workmanship. Yay!!

From what little Ive read about them, they seem like good quality SG copies. If I like it, Ill probably put Lollars in it and switch to vintage style Kluson tuners.

Why would you call it a copy ? Gibson has owned Epiphone since 1957. The 2020 are now branded as SG's. The Elitist even has the same small post bridge as a Gibson. If the G400 was a copy, Gibson would have brought Epiphone to court a long time ago.

If you like it as you say, I suggest to play it for a long while to see how the pickups perform. Play with their height to find their sweet spot. I have a hard time thinking that such a greatly crafted guitar would have crappy pickups in it.

I also have two Epiphone SG from the same years, mine are 2003 and 2004. Model is the Vintage with neck binding also and nice mahogany like yours. They are amongst the best of the G400 model. I am sure the Elitist will be incredible.

One has wood grain very similar to yours.

I guess I used the word "copy" to hastily. I meant "not a Gibson SG". I haven't picked it up yet so I dont know if the pickups will be subpar or not. I did read that they were USA built, so they might be just fine. Ill find out today when I get it. Ill report back when I get it in hand.

Thanks. Yes Korean. For a while I got 5 of them, from 2003, 04 and 05. Here are three I had at the same time. I kept the Cherry and the bottom natural.

Well, I picked it up today. I have to say, its way better than I imagined. Its every bit as good in quality as my 2017 Gibson SG Special T I used to have. Right off the bat I noticed the neck is chunkier than my Special and almost no "whippy neck" like the Special had. Plays great and the pick ups sound kick ass! I guess I dont have to replace the PU's after all(: Only thing I want to do really is put Grover Vintage Style tuners on it. I could take or leave the tombstone headstock, but its not a deal breaker. If anyone has any interest in buying one, do it. Head and shoulders above ANY Epiphone Ive ever played. Not as good as a Gibson SG Standard, but still a top notch SG.
