After a delayed trade attempt a few weeks ago, I finally was able to turn my '83 strat into the SG I've wanted for over 20 years! Always wanted to get my hands on one of these horned beasts, but now it has finally come to be!

The college kids that I got this from, must have never played it... it is a 2018 Special, and I could not find a single flaw. Still has the factory cellophane on the pickguard. No scratches, dings, buckle rash, notta. The thing is in perfect condition, and much to my surprise, still had all the original gibson documentation in the case. Has some minor intonation issues on the G string, but that is easy enough to fix when I get around to it.

Could not be happier with this one.

I like the way the "rhythm" pickup is right up against the end of the fretboard.
Its like a lead pickup for the those really high notes.
I can see why you would want to have the ability to switch that "rhythm" pickups' function mode during a smokin' lead for tonal variation and feedback etc.
Check to make sure your mini-humbuckers are 4 wire.
I've seen pots that have the little rectangular DPDT switches with the slightly larger 3/8" threaded section that would work hard wired.
My f-hole LP studio has them, they're push in - pop out types.
You could change out the pots then just jumper wire the switch contacts to the right points on the PCB.
Possibly without clearance issues - maybe.
I wouldn't want to drill any mini-switch holes in it.

    Good luck !

The electronics on a stock 2018 special are a Printed circuit board with connectorized pickups, albeit with four wires.

Not sure why I would want to do any of that... I love modding the hell outta guitars, but this one is pretty darn good as is. I have no desire at this point.

As far as the pickup placement, I do dig that its smack dab up against the board. Im a fan of a nice warm neck tone, and this thing kills it. Really fills a great niche sonically, somewhere between buckers and single coils. This might be that tone I've been searching for for the last 30 years. And on the guitar Ive wanted since day 1. Go figure...

The neck pickup on a 22 fret and 24 fret SG are at the same location. The extra two frets on a 24 fret SG makes it appear that the neck pickup is closer to the neck when in reality it is not.

The SG and LP is a different story.
