I was offered a Gibson Firebird in a trade for my Kotzen tele, I've always liked the looks of Firebirds but never played one so I checked the local store to see what they had. The only one in was an Epiphone Joe Bonamassa signature Firebird, it was great! So instead of doing the trade I came home with the Epi, I'll flip the Kotzen and there should be a pretty penny in between. I had read all kinds of things about the firebirds and their awkward bodies but it fits my proportions really well, both standing and sitting it's very comfortable to play. It's more top heavy than the SG and the neck dive is crazy if I let go of the neck but it's countered by the very comfortable resting place for the lower arm on the upper part of the body. The sustain is amazing, it is what I wished the SG was. The fit and finish is better than the SG that has Gibson on the headstock but the frets are not quite there, although perfectly acceptable. The volume pot was shot, it's either on or off so they knocked $60 off the price, I can now comfortably spend $6 on new pots. It sounds and feels great, sweet sounding pickup and a nice chunky neck. It could only have been cooler if it was the sunburst model, it's gorgeous, you can see all the pieces in the 9 piece neck and the two color headstock... It came in a gigbag and a really cute Certificate of Authenticity Sorry for the long post and poor pics!
