Got this from another forum. I got one right.
Here is a 1950's PAF Les Paul played among six other vintage Gibson guitars: a 53/57 Goldtop conversion w/long magnet PAF's, a 1958 full hollowbody ES-350TN with PAF's, a semi-hollow 1964 ES-345 with purple wound PAT's, a full hollowbody 1959 ES-330TDN with P-90's, a 1964 Firebird I with FB pu, a 1963 SG LP Standard modded with Bigsby and long mag PAF's, and a '74 Flying V with aftermarket PAF "clones".

Please try to identify which guitar you are hearing in the sound clip, below.

Here are the times and numbers of the guitars in order heard.
    1. 0:00 - 0:32
    2. 0:32 - 1:06
    3. 1:06 - 1:37
    4. 1:37 - 2:08
    5. 2:08 - 2:40
    6. 2:40 - 3:11
    7. 3:11 - end
The amp was dimed for all guitars and all guitars were set wide open and on bridge PU... soundclip:

Supro sounds awesome. Well I gotta say I heard Bily gibbons and Paul Kossof
in there for a couple second. Gotta vote for what I thought was the Lester GT and then V
and then the 360 full hollowbody to my complete amazement.

So, just to play Devil's Advocate, lets change the critique from the tonewoods to pickups, and then what you're saying is that people can't hear the difference in different pickups...

Interesting, fun to do, thanks for posting, but proves nada, zilch. :D

Proves that those yahoos claiming to be able to hear a particular guitar are full of it.
DC Wave just went 3/7 and he almost switch two of the three.

^ when I get home, I'm gonna have a go, and I'm hoping for 7/7 (no, won't look at the answers); realistically, I'm thinking I might be able to get the P90s and the Firebird...

Proves that a lot of people hear with their eyes.

Good point. Just like drinking (or tasting anything for that matter). Then again, if what you hear becomes more pleasant because of what you see, and thereby makes the listening experience better, I'm all for it! But it certainly shows that being a bit humble about your ability to recognize different guitars is a good idea. Great test, Biddlin!

I picked the p-90 and the firebird out as different from the others but I got them reversed. not suprising as I have almost no frame of reference as far as mini hums go.

This is a really bad test of telling pickups apart because of how different the guitars are, and how similar the pickups are (excepting the p90 and mini-hum). too many other unrelated variables.

Hopefully everybody has picked before reading this far. I thought I had the P-90 due to the characteristic hum / buzz but it ended up being something else with a grounding issue! wtf! Foul! Cheat'n ! LOL And the usually bright & cutting mini hums aren't the brightest either.

I did get the Les Paul but only because of the notes he hit & how he played with a bit more inspiration.
But a real PAF had so much variation from guitar to guitar back then that it just as easily could have been a real good clone, which I also got but,... who knows wtf a clone sounds like eh??

Just goes to show you, style can dominate most established standards & expectations. And wood! What does wood matter? I'm almost ready to say with a decent amp, .. what does pickup or guitar matter either?

I'm safe saying the best bet is a guitar than brings out your soul by connecting with you allowing you to feel something creative & be able to easily & freely communicate through it!

Exactly. Just try picturing Jimmy Page playing Stairway on a Tele, but he did.
