Heres the first link to my P-90 area I've been on to......other pics to follow as I get set up properly.........

    http://tnor.org/Guitar/6_1134/56LesPaulP90s.htm

Ran into this when I was deciding which couple of 50's P-90 to buy to add to the bench as I was running low...

Some from the period come with a Cream rubber bonnet and later ones with phillips head screws which are much more common

    Great link Voxy.

I've never taken apart any pups in my life except to take the covers off
of my old LP Standard years ago...

So, in those pixs, is the winding off or under something?

Hold on Vic- I just got on a hosting site thanks to Esster and I have a rewind 50's P-90 ? that I turned down, that he wanted an original Friebird long tail lyre vibrato in trade....... It has a clear bobbin in lieu of the original black one, for some reason, so you can see the windings! Good rewind but not worth that bird lyre IMHO...

No Six...that's something that popped up during an investigation of 50's P-90's. Thought it'd be good to start the thread till I get better set up here.

That looks like it would be very useful in a "parts ID" thread, section, or general parts area. Useful. Need to put it in my "vault of stuff you don't know". Thanks.

It's interesting how you adjust the height of P-90's Six!!!!!
Seems it's best done from under the magnets between the bottom plate and the magnets!
The 50's ones have the same 2 1/2" M55 magnet as the 50's Paf's have.....not sure yet how to tell the visual difference between Alnico 11, 111, or IV

    Here's a side view!

Reissue cloth tape? I don't know! Coil, M55 Magnets---2 1/2 " and notice the wood spacers, very interesting as there to raise the coil and hence the pickup to the proper height in relation to the strings! I don't know if the height difference affects anything as the spacers are under the magnet.

See those wood spacers? There all different sizes to meet different application heights which you'll see when I take apart the 60' LP Special to put the proper wraparound bridge on! I'll then take photo's of those pickups. Again, those magnets are the same as the iones in the 50's PAF pickups.....

Here is an original P90 that I replaced from the 60' LP Special Bridge. If you look closely you'll notice the "ears" cut off! It was a "Dog Ear" pickup originally and then installed in the guitar. It's a great sounding pickup but in the bridge position it was much less loud as there's less string vibrations there so a much louder P-90 was put there to balance neck & bridge volume out. The replacement was a 10.5K in lieu of a 7.8K.......

    more to come

Gees, I guess we still have to resize the pics here to fit the frames! Give me the size CB that fits perfectly in the frame so I can resize before I load into photobucket. Thought the site did it automatically?
