    Hi all. My first post here. About 25 years ago I traded a tele for this SG - I've always preferred Gibsons (and my first electric was a '66 SG-style Les Paul Jr). Now I'm digging into the weeds (again) trying to figure out exactly what year it is. I've always thought 1970 - 72. The serial # is 923181. Based on other posts, I'm thinking 1970, but there are many folks here who know more than me and may have a better idea! Thanks.

    Welcome to our forum. Pictures and the pot codes would be the best hope for a clearer determination.

    1966-71 SG Standard
    If knobs original, then closer to ‘66.
    Pot codes will narrow it down.

    Pot Code Format
    137YYWW
    137 = CTS
    YY= Year
    WW= Week

    So I'm guessing 1970 based on the difficult-to-read pot code?

    1970 would be the earliest year the guitar was built. It's not uncommon to use pots left over from the year before, so it could be a 1971 model, but no later, since there were no SG Standards in 1972, which were replaced by the SG Deluxe. Does it have a volute and/or a "Made in USA" stamp? Those were two features that were transitional in 1970-71.

    Thanks! It has both a volute and a made in USA stamp.
