Just discovered Kadavar. Not strictly doom metal, but one can easily hear the Sabbath influence as well as 70s hard rock influence. Here they are on stage with an Epiphone (!) SG. Well, it looks like the 3 pick up Les Paul Custom model to be more precise:

I just signed up to PlayThisRiff.com. It is cool to see the artists go through the riffs on video. So many tabs at UltimateGuitar are off and my ear can be too.

I cant transcribe well so i am contemplating signing up one day as well, for now i'll learn all the free songs first :laugh2:

As you said its cool to see the artist do it. The tabs for Monster Magnets 'Dopes to Infinity' on UG are way off when you compare it to the ones on playthisriff.com

The thing is, there have been several versions of the Big Muff - check this out:

The Big Muff Pi Home Page

    Big Muff Versions_Quick Identifier

Not all have the same tone, so you guys might not be referring to the exact same stompbox.

Biddlin's right, though, it's been standard issue since the early 70's.

Do you guys recommend signing up for playthisriff.com? I've been debating paying for it for awhile now.

I recommend it if there are specific songs on the site you want to learn and you have time to dedicate to it. I joined for Clutch, Fu Manchu, Red Fang and The Sword. I signed up for a 3 month period through paypal rather than do the subscription to give it a try. So far so good.

Cool Muff page. I have a version 8 Russian Big Muff PI according to the photos.

The problem I had using a Big Muff for doom/sludge was that it tended to be too loose sounding in the lower end. A problem which only tends to get worse the lower you tune. By the time you get to B standard it's flub city. Running a tube screamer in front of the Muff helps a lot though.

One fuzz that looks really promising is the Blackout Effectors Musket Fuzz.

My band opened for eyehategod a few weeks ago. No SGs for them (they do have some sexy guitars though) but there were in our set. Not only that but Jimmy Bower borrowed my rig. Just wanted to share because I'm still super stoked on it.

That's awesome !!!! Love EHG !!! We've opened for them and hung out a few times too. Bower let me play his old soild state ampeg and custom rebel flag guitar once.Nice butcher too btw, killer amps. The other guitarist in my band uses one. ( well he just got a green electric amp, so that'll take over for the peavey )

I've had that amp for almost 20 years. It was out of commission for a couple years and I just got it running again maybe six months ago. I love it. Throw an SD1 in front of it and it crushes.
