The rhythm/treble rings are pretty useless and ugly and I'd rather do without.

    I think if I had a Les Paul I'd go with LES/MOORE

Ahhh, the 'Air' Poker Chip, as featured on many Air Guitars around the world...

    Good choice!

I saw one once that said THUNDER/LIGHTING which is really cool and fitting of the tone you get from each pickup. I was considering getting one

Surely they should say "Rock", "Roll". Thus, middle position is "Rock & Roll".

I saw one that had Blues and Rock before, so I guess in the middle you get Blues Rock.

There's heaps of them out there, some quite clever and others not so much. They all make more sense than Rhythm and Treble though.

Ying and Yang, or Yang and Ying. Isn't it the sound it makes ? OK ... more on a Strat.

This thread has me curious why Gibson decided to include these things in the first place. Were people forgetting what the switch did? And is it really to help the player, because if so it's upside down.

Go figure ... just another idiosyncrasy of the electric guitar world, that will never be addressed in certain circles.

I got a custom one from Philadelphia Luthiers that says "STUN" and "KILL"
I need to dig it out of my toolbox and put it on a guitar.

Its pretty normal label switches in electronics, and early in the design life time of the guitar how much labeling it really needed wouldnt have been clear yet. Gibson also labled the top hat knobs so it seems pretty consistant to put some kind of label on this too.

I personally replaced mine with a Georgia state quarter. The back of the georga quarter is a fruit ringed in laurel leaves. when drilled through the fruit was lost and it left only the milled edge and a set of laurels around the switch. its pretty subtle but I like it.

I like "Bite/Sting" as well as "Baby/Baby" and "Nickel/Dime" but right now
like de Tar Baby, I like the one that don't say nuffin' at all.

...and we had another thread on this forum that Kevy started.
He called it: "Rhythm/Treble, anybody else annoyed by this?"

That was a great thread and it went on and on with lots of us chiming in with
all manner of dichotomies... from Guns/Roses to AC/DC, and on and on.
Run/Pass, Hook/Layup, Missiles/Cannon, it goes on and on. Card games,
board games, war games, History, Sci Fi, Comic books... all these can supply a rich store
    of choices. Bluff/Fold, Bet/Check, Kings/Aces, Mars/Venus,

We can go down in the gutter with this, or up into the clouds.
Ain't freedom a bitch? Although you can do "Whips/Chains" if you like.

But let's figure that in 1952 lots of guitarists were buying their first electric
guitar, and Gibson engineers thought that they might need "suggested uses"
labeling, as a user friendly feature. Then it turned into a tradition so that people
feel cheated if Gibson doesn't give them a plastic poker chip when they pay
$4000 for a new Les Paul "Sunken Treasure" whatever that means.

    How about "Louie/Louie"
