Be careful when you drill holes, low RPM to avoid the heat

Because it won't fit. P90s are longer than humbuckers by a good margin.

My Epi dot... I use it to just mess around with things... I was going to try this with those cheap covers and some cheap chinese P90 to test at first...

DrBgood has got me worried though... are P90s really that big? I've seen some large dog ear P90s, but those soapbar p90s (in my head) seem to be small enough... no?

Just buy some humbucker size P-90s. Or just one for the neck and leave the humbucker in the bridge. I did that on Burla.

Yeah I have no problem with those, but I think it would be nice to be able to have my pick of any p90s that are out there for what seems to be an easy and cheap mod...

It is easy and cheap with a router but will be harder to fill in the gaps lengthwise. I have seen some posts for solutions for that. I think it is even easier to just sell the Dot and buy something with P90s.
Better yet KEEP the dot and buy something with P90's.

Great for learning Mississippi Queen if you dont already..

Yeah the Dot (2005 gloss black) is just a plaything/mod guitar. I got it for next to nothing (175$ CAD). I rigged it with connectors so I can just mess around with pickups and have fun with it. Next move is going to be getting adapter rings and putting legit tele pickups in it.... I just had this P90 idea the other day looking at options for that project...

But, those are the dog-ear P-90s. How about the soap-bar P-90s?

Have ya got a nifty picture of that, Mister DrB, Man!

OK then, cut off the ears and see if it fits in the humbucker route. It doesn't. If you don't believe me, try it and waste your money and time, it's yours.

If it did fit, why would they have invented Humbucker sized P90s ?

I don't doubt that your picture is accurate. Just without a P90 in my hands I can't imagine it not fitting. Still, I don't have the arrogance to think I'm the first one to come up with this super simple idea. I suspect there is an issue with it, and it might be size as you say...
