I've been "restoring" my '69 Special after being inspired by ETSG. Since creating my username I've also learned to not trust the serial number and that the guitar I've thought was a '68 since I bought it in '82 is most likely a '69!

Welcome, and glad you're finding this place helpful.

We're also going to need photos of this guitar (avatar pics don't count). :thumb:

As I'm struggling with the interwebs here my wife comes in to see what's going on as my son has told her I'm looking at porn. Seems he's told her I'm looking at the Satan's Girl forum. Might not be too far off.

Here is just guitar porn. I don't think you get some trouble like a quick divorce. I guess they know what an SG guitar looks like.

What was the function of the switches you removed?

I went through a period of trying to make one guitar do everything and did the coil tap/phase thing. Such a comfortable guitar to play I didn't want to keep swapping out between songs. Never really worked for me though.

I tortured this poor SG for years trying to get the sound I wanted. Here's a pic from '84 before the Seymour Duncans went in.

I've finally realized it was P-90's I was looking for all along. Btw, it had humbuckers when I bought it.

Nice job going back to P90s and a lightning wraparound, a great combination.

    Welcome!

    Nice SG Special.

My first SG was a 1969 SG Special.
A quick indicator of year on these is the missing dot over the “i” on the headstock logo.

That style SG Special with the bound neck and dots along with batwing is my favorite kind of SG which is why I have a couple of SG Classics as my daily drivers.

Your “before” pic looks like it was inspired by Glenn Tipton’s SG Special with humbuckers and pickup rings on the batwing along with the Leo Quan Badass style bridge.

That looks incredible. Can I ask what bridge you went with to go back to the traditional wrap around bridge?
