OK, I own a Standard SG...but I have to say some things as to why the SG is not a great guitar and you are fooling yourself if you think it is.

    1. It can't funk.

    2. It looks too Satan-ish. In a world that needs love, why would Gibson still make a guitar that looks like the Devil? And they make them in black, too! Ooh, that's not nice. That's real evil.

    3. They really can't do pop music. It all has to be metal and dark minor chords stuff.

    4. The thing does not have a cool name like a Stratocaster, White Falcon, Explorer, Telecaster, Mustang, Jaguar... An SG? What the hell is that? Spanish guitar? Solid guitar? Simple guitar? SATAN'S GUITAR!!!!

    5. No great player used one. Oh, sure Robbie Krieger did, but do you think anybody knows who Krieger is what with his band's most famous frontman? Rickenbacker has The Beatles, Gretsch has Chet, Fender has Clapton, ESP has Metallica, Ovation has Glen Campbell... SG has....uhh, hmmm...that little schoolkid from AC/DC?

    6. The SG's neck is far too long. When you play one you need arm extensions. Gibson should have made it a 12 fret neck.

And there are a billion other reasons why the SG is not a good guitar but I am sure you do not need to be reminded of them

I no longer play my SG. I have placed it in my rock garden as decoration. I finally found a good use for the SG:

    Super funny but enlightening.

Now I understand what I was missing. "Arm Extensions" that is it. I should get some and I will be able to play an SG better.

Gary Clark Jr. must got some...right!

I just had to. While Kym Thayall's guitar is technically not an SG, it is SG like and he is a sick player if you ask me.

I got my first one but it was missing a scratch plate and only had 3 knobs like a Strat. Hated it so much, I bought 3 more over the next 7-8 years. My most recent junky SG is that yellowish white one down below the 3 Stooges.

This is an April Fool thread... but just in time for Halloween.

If anyone doesn't care for their SG, they can quickly sell it
to someone who does. Or send it to me.

Yep, they are crap. The only reason I have five SGs is to shield others from having to play them.

Gahr, I think I read somewhere, that is the real reason Pete Townshend smashed so many SG's too.

I thought he only smashed Rickenbackers?

Serious question here (on a seriously silly thread):

Did Pete ever smash that SG Special he was always photographed with? I know he smashed a number of Rics and his Gretsch (but he loved that guitar so much he had it repaired); but did Pete ever smash an SG?

Everyone knows Ted McCarthy was a kind man. He specified the SG should have a weakness at the headstock, just to save SG owners from having to suffer playing them for too long. And just to be on the safe side, he insisted they all had severe neck dive, just to ensure that headstock would hit the floor sooner or later...
