Yesterday was really a good one for this old trooper. The retirement check was direct deposited to the bank. Did some of my payday activities and then went to the big city of Tyler (in East Texas) to see my doctor at the VA clinic there. We discussed the business of the left leg. It's infected and looks quite nasty. Diabetic issues and such, but I'm taking antibiotics for it now and we'll see if it clears up. The heart thing is held in check for now. Said the quitting of the tobacco use has vastly improved my overall health conditions, and it looks positive. That was a nice thing to hear....

Then I went to a gun shop and found 800 rounds of .22LR ammo (hard to find most of the time) and at a decent price to boot. Happy Happy Worm!:D

Then back to the little town near where I live to visit the pawn shop. Hadda get an item outta pawn as last month got a might tight. While there I spotted something I've been hunting for months. No not a guitar or amp..
A VCR! A VCR/DVD device in fact! $19.95 and it was all mine! I was beyond thrilled about that.... You see, I have nearly 200 VHS tapes and since nearly all my DVD's were stolen a year or better ago, movies here were at a premium since my last VCR device bit the dust.... Just a few DVD's here and though nice, there were tons of great stuff on tape that I could no longer watch.

Got home and set the VCR up with my modest little TV. Oh the thrill when I saw that it worked! And has auto tracking that is done in real time and functions like a Swiss car, or boat, ahhhh ummm, Watch! Yeah that's it... Lots of nice features and set up for stereo playback for tapes with that feature. Overall a nice clean unit. Great to have and the price was good too.:)

So last night I was watching the movie with Wes Studi, Geronimo, when one of my cats, Mini Me, decided to start her walk around the place rubbing up against everything. The newly installed VCR is located on a lower shelf of the stand the TV is on and stuck out slightly due to it's size on the shelf. Mini Me was twisting and turning all over the place and rubbed up against a large Maglight flashlight standing up near the area and that heavy flashlight fell over. Right into the edge of the VCR.... The picture immediately went out! I mean no blue screen or anything. Just blank with the soundtrack still going. :wow:

I let loose a string of English foul language that would make Gunny R. Lee Emery sound like a beginner. The cat was running for her life as she knew old pop had blown a gasket and had murder in his eyes. I chased her down under a chair and began a verbal dress down that rivaled my Drill Sgt days way back when. I stopped after five minutes running out of things to say and breath at the same time....

The VRC was crippled. No picture. After an hour of fighting with it I found a piece inside that had been knocked loose from the impact. Setting it back into place and reassembling the unit, much to my relief, it worked again. So now at least I can watch all my old movies I've collected for many years and the cat still remains on this planet. Though I have to admit that the thought of taking one of those new loads and shooting her did cross my mind.... Well, almost.... and the flashlight that I kept so close? Well it's been moved to another location to save the cat's life...and my sanity..:naughty:

Cats..... They're worse than kids at times, but at least ya don't have to change diapers on 'em. Now I'm gonna go watch Wayne's World. Sch-Wing! NO STAIRWAY! Nice to have a VCR again. :)

HNVCRD bro! I still have a VCR, a 6 head Sony HiFi stereo one with laser beams and all the other goodies, and it still ticks like a Swiss watch! I have gone modern with a Blu-Ray player too, but I still use the VCR!

I'm an old video tech so I definitely relate to the VCR thing. My Princess destroyed one of the boxes to my Amiga computers. As a rule she is not too bad with my stuff around the house. She spooks real easy as well. I'm glad your VCR is still working. I need to get one myself! All my older ones are not working so dandy these days. Thanks for the story and the inspiration Worm!

Well we all know I've got vinyl dating back to the 50's, but I also still have my trusty 8 track recorder/player and..... probably 50 or more 8 track tapes floating around the place. Yes boys and girls, as if it's no real surprise, I got 8 tracks too..... and about 200 plus cassettes as well. At times I'm so analog that even my braincells function in analog.

I remember when I had the ONLY 8 track recorder in the entire county and was quite popular with many folks as I'd convert LP's to 8 track and made a whopping $5.00 for my efforts. Radio Shack sold the blanks and I told all my amigos, and their amigos, to being me a blank and the LP they wanted on 8 track and a Five Dollar bill then come back in an hour. Sorta like one hour photo processing without the little booth in the middle of the parking lot!:laugh2:

For an extra fee I'd do my Wolfman Jack voice and introduce the tunes. That was a real hit as I had Wolfman down pat. But all that nonsense paid for that Sony 8 track recorder in no time! :naughty:

As to the .22LR's, one shop sold me a bulk pack of 800. That was nice. Another store down the road said two measly boxes and that's it. And it was crap ammo to boot! I'll be going back to the other store soon maybe if I can afford the drive and the ammo.... Got a hungry Sig to feed!:thumb:

    Mosquito food! :dude:

I have the Sig 1911-22 (made for Sig Sauer by some German company).

Fortunately I had ammo before this crisis, and also managed to score 1200 rounds of CCI mini-mag .22lr just before the fit hit the shan.

    Video Cassette Recorder..
Old style movie player. Movies (and music!) were recorded on celluloid tape, which was in large plastic cassettes. The cassettes were played in a cassette player.

    Yeah I know huh?:ohno:

As a precaution against losing it in whatever gun grab is presently being worked up, I have transferred ownership of my Wilson Combat Elite Professional (4.1" 1911), to my youngest son who is relocating to Washington State.

After I relocate there myself I hope to make it my carry piece (if I can ever talk him into transferring it back: 'course I AM holding his Taylor 810CE as collateral: hoping that'll work, as they're both worth as the same market value).:naughty:

Likely have to couch surf on my son and his girlfriend's couch until I can muster up my own digs.

There's also band business I'm not quite done with here, holding me for a while.
But if we get famous I'll be able to have a pool shaped like a guitar amplifier up in Washington, and likely enough water to fill the one I already have and will take with me (it inflates)!:naughty:

I still know a few "operatives" that may be paying you a visit. Hint: Guys with crewcuts dressed in black suits with sunglasses may appear at your door. Just follow instructions and you won't be harmed. :naughty:

Joking of course..... or am I? :hmm::)
