i've been talkin about this project with a fella named wolfe macleod who owns wolfetone pickups out of Seattle. he handwinds all his pups personally, anyway, he out of the kindness set about getting some definative info for me, got this back from Jason Lollar...

Here's what Jason Lollr said about that guitar

Yep, I believe that is a melody maker or an SG special, I think it will
take minis without routing but it will need a custom pickgaurd made.
The original pickups are basically a strat size pickup with a bar agnet for
a pole but the difference is the bottom plate is an oval 3.7 long X 1.125
minis are not that long and are 1.125 wide so it shoud fit
    Jason

    Wolfe

very cool guy here, just loves his pups, check him out at :

Skids - I'm with you on the Dimarzios... haven't heard much.. the only thing that turns me off about the Seymour Duncans is the ridiculous "S" they put on the minihumbuckers... I really wish they didn't do that.... but oh well, they do sound great, and I suppose that's all that counts.... don't know much about that Dimarzios... but I'm sure they sound good.... by the way, in case you're thinking about a strat-type single-coil humbucker, I would advise against it..... I have a JB Jr. in the bridge of one of my guitars (a Strat) and would not recommend it to anyone... too thin and shrill... although, it might sound better in a set-neck mahogany axe.... but I would'nt chance it...

    Home surgery...

    Brings back some memories.

Clear off the kitchen counter, soap and glove up,
and call in the dogs for some warm treats!

    Don't ask. 8)

I just started a little project of my own. So far I have a Korina Strat body routed for 2 hums. It should be interesting.
