Bridge bushing pressed in and I started the finishing process.
I mixed a couple drops of Cherry dye along with a few drops of
Med. Brown dye into some alcohol and stained everything to a uniform color.
It looks red in the pics but trust me, its a nice shade of Mahogany.

I also reduced the size of the "overhang" if you wanna call it that where the neck joins the body.

    sweet!

how much is the zero fret taller than the first fret?

i'm asking because i have a deranged 79 gretsch bst 1000 just like this one

except mine (not the one in the picture) is in way worse conditions

that i'd like to refret myself,
(or at least, assuming i manage to find the same fretwire,
i'd like to try to replace the first 7 frets only, the others are ok)
    she has the zero fret.

could i use stainless steel fretwire for the zero fret only, for durability purposes
or would it be better to use the same fretwire all over the neck?

thanks again for this most useful thread :Bangin:

Re: Tony Iommi's Old Boy Replica / Updated 01-16 !

While awaiting closeup pictures of Old Boy from Jaydee to start the "Aging Process" I decided to tackle replicating that small odd ball knob thats on the original.

    I think I got it.

Lemme know what you think !

I have Jazz Bass knobs on there now but to me it looks like the original knobs are much larger.
    Rickenbacker knobs maybe ?

Antique radio knobs like the ones pictured below?

Hey Louigie! .. @ the Philly show was always a guy who had tons and tons or parts, if you remember back then ;) where I spent at least a solid hour going thru all his stuff .. nice guy but a wierd cat at the same time, well, in one area of his, he had thousands of different knobs that I went thru, again if you remember ;D

I got new pictures from Jaydee. He sent me 10 pics of Old Boy so I can try and get mine looking as close as humanly possible.

Man does this thing look beat up !

No, you are not seeing things, I flipped the picture so it can be right handed and I can lay out everything properly.

What is he using for indicators on the body next to the knobs? Looks like a white line with a brad nailed in.

Wow man! I must say your work is absolutely impressive... I can't imagine what it has to be playing your own handmade guitar, and more if it is a labor of love and care like this one. I would love to hear it once is finished, but by the looks of it I would say that is going to sound professional-like or maybe better, who knows? ;D

Replicating SRV's #1 was a walk in the park compared to this........ :D

Some parts look good, other parts look like doo-doo !
I may have to strip the lower portion just above the knobs to the midway point of the bridge and do something else.

    here it is:

Did you mean to put "Tony Iommi" and "Custom" upside down?

I noticed that AFTER i put the decal into place.
I sent the guy who dose my decals a picture of Old Boy's headstock and he made it that way.
So, after some thinking I decided to leave it. At least something on my copy will be EXACT to the original !
