I noticed that AFTER i put the decal into place.
I sent the guy who dose my decals a picture of Old Boy's headstock and he made it that way.
So, after some thinking I decided to leave it. At least something on my copy will be EXACT to the original !

I fixed the decal. I didn't like the placement of it so i sanded it off, cut apart another decal . Looks better now !

Check out new pics below !

Re: Tony Iommi's Old Boy Replica / Updated 02-27 !

Well as far as I'm concerned, for the most part the "finish" is done.
I may airbrush some shading in a few more places and the face of the headstock still needs to be clear coated.

Now I know I'm gonna get comments about this and that, not dark enough, too light here, etc, etc.
Lemme tell ya, this wasn't easy. Everytime I'd look at a different picture i'd see something that i didn't see before. I think I captured for the most part, the look of Old Boy.

I did say I was gonna try and replicate it.
I never said I was gonna make an exact duplicate. ;)

Lemme hear it, good bad or indifferent ! ;D

    That's a great job, BW.

Now you can move this thread to the "Mauled SG" area. :)

That's the same attitude I've adopted for the Cipollina SG. It's a "Tribute", not a replica. Almost impossible to replicate the original when you're working from the low-res pics I've had to use!
That TM OB is looking great Lou. I think you've managed to capture that scabby, worn look to a tee. ;D

Excellent job!!! These photos show the finish is even cracked up for that aged and worn look. Talk about extreme make over, well done!

Wonder which would sound better, the Monkey or Old boy...

Well, It's 99% done. I strung it up Sunday, set it all up , tweeked the neck
and wired it. It's got a nice ring to it and the neck feels great !
Awaiting arrival of the pickups from the UK and an Allparts delivery of the strap locks and pickguard material for the back.

I doubt there are any "before" pics... It must have been broiled within days of it being finished... I dont see how he can play it every night in different parts of the world. sweating all over the exposed wood.. Couldn't that hurt the wood of the guitar?

    Actually there is 'before' footage:

From 1991. Oldboy was made in 1975.

    Lou, awesome work!!! :D :Droolin:

    Hi Lou

I am very impressed, looks amazing!

I have been asked to make an Old Boy for someone in Italy with the distressed paint look, if it turns out half as good as your attempt I'll be well pleased!

    All the best
    John
